SU Upsets BC in Quarterfinal Action, 4-0

BRIDGEWATER, Va. --- The Shenandoah University women's soccer team will be making its third straight appearance in the ODAC Tournament semi-finals after registering a 4-0 upset over third-seeded Bridgewater Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (8-9-1) advances to Wednesday's semi-final round against No. 2 Washington and Lee.

That game will be played on the Generals campus at a time to be announced. W&L advanced into the semi-finals with a 3-0 victory over seventh-seeded Randolph-Macon.

The Hornets dominated Bridgewater (16-4) from the outset, scoring just 8:15 into the game and never looking back.

Junior Danielle Burris, who was named to the Capital One Academic All-District V first team earlier this week, scored that opening goal by ripping her 30-yard shot just under the crossbar.

Nearly 30 minutes later, Burris gave her side some breathing room by knocking a shot off of Eagles keeper Krista Kelly's hands and in.

Staked to that 2-0 lead, SU played solid defense and made the most of its limited chances.

Coach Liz Pike's team took just four shots in the second half and scored on two of those, by Catherine Major in the 48th minute and by Averi Rosena in the 64th.

Burris completed her outstanding day by setting up Rosena's goal.

Hornets keeper Erin Septer turned away all six shots to record the shutout.

BC outshot SU 15-10 and took six of the game's seven corners.
