Lynchburg Rolls Past Randolph, Set to Host Final Four

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- The top-seeded Lynchburg College women's soccer team jumped ahead early and rolled to a 10-0 win over #8 Randolph College Wednesday evening in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament Quarterfinal match.

The Hornets struck just 24 seconds into the game, the earliest they have put points on the scoreboard this season. Senior Morgan Singer scored from fellow senior Jade Wollfor the early 1-0 advantage. Hannah Olds made the score 2-0 at the 6:36 mark of the first half from Singer, then the scoring quieted down for the next 24 minutes. Caitlin Mertens found the back of the net on a feed from Elizabeth Oden and Frances Fosteralso scored to push the advantage to 4-0 at intermission.

The Hornets netted six more scores in the second half, with goals by Olds, Woll, Singer,Amani Jones, Mertens and Jakubek, with assists by Woll, Olds, Mertens and Jakubek.

Olds, Singer and Mertens each had two goals and an assist and Woll had two assists and one goal.

Randolph (6-12-1) keeper Stephanie Quirk made 13 saves and Quinn-Lynn Bates stopped three shots. Kylie Peters had two saves off the bench for LC in the second half.

The Hornets had large advantages in total shots (49-5) and corner kicks (8-2).

Lynchburg (18-2-1) will host the ODAC Tournament Semifinals and Finals on Shellenberger Field this weekend. Semifinal matchups on Saturday include #1 LC vs. #4 Virginia Wesleyan College (noon) and #2 Shenandoah University and #6 Roanoke College (2:30 p.m.). The two surviving teams will battle for the ODAC Title and automatic NCAA berth Sunday at 1 p.m.
