Maroons Use PKs to Advance to Quarterfinals

The Lead: Sixth-seeded Roanoke College advanced to the ODAC Women's Soccer Semifinals on penalty kicks over third-seeded Washington and Lee on Wednesday.

How it Happened:

  • The Generals got on the board just 5:20 into the match on a Caroline Peters unassisted strike to make it 1-0.
  • The match stayed that way until the 70th minute when RC's Linnea Kremer fedAnna Carter for the equalizing goal for the Maroons.
  • The match stayed that way through the end of regulation and the two overtime frames before heading to penalty kicks.
  • Sarah Dvorak stopped the first Washington and Lee pk attempt and the Maroons were flawless with chances.  RC got tallies from Marlana BarnardNathalie TorresLauren O'BrienAbby Hobby and Laura Sullivan who notched the win by converting her chance.

Up Next:
Roanoke will head to Lynchburg College on Saturday where it will take on second-seeded Shenandoah in the second semifinal at a time to be determined.
