Virginia Wesleyan Secures Top Billing

FOREST, Va. --- There was plenty to decide on the final weekend of ODAC women's soccer, with nearly each game having an effect on the makeup of the conference tournament field. Virginia Wesleyan University controlled its own destiny at the top of the eight-team setup, winning its final game to lockup top billing in the upcoming ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament.

The possibility of a four-way tie at the top existed prior to the weekend, but final results left just two deadlocks in the eight-team setup. Lynchburg College earned the second seed outright, as did Roanoke College for the third seed following its victory over Bridgewater College on Saturday.

That loss for the Eagles coupled with Washington and Lee University's setback at Virginia Wesleyan left the two squads tied for fourth. Bridgewater's 3-2 win during the regular season awards the Eagles the final quarterfinal hosting position as they'll welcome fifth-seeded W&L to campus in the opening round.

Randolph-Macon College has sole ownership of the sixth seed and will travel to Salem to square off with the Maroons in the quarterfinals.

The final two spots came down to a second tie between Shenandoah University and Eastern Mennonite University. The Hornets won their contest at Emory & Henry College on Sunday, putting them into lock-step with the Royals. EMU and SU did not play during the regular season in the conference's unbalanced format. Diving further into the ODAC's tiebreaking procedures, Shenandoah came out on top and will play as the seventh seed. SU heads to Lynchburg for the quarterfinals, while EMU makes the trip to Virginia Wesleyan.

Tournament play begins with the quarterfinals on Wednesday, November 1. The highest seed remaining in the field after the quarterfinals will host the semifinals and championship on Saturday and Sunday, November 4-5.  Game times are to be determined.
