Marlins Hoist ODAC Women's Soccer Trophy for Second Time

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. --- Virginia Wesleyan University are champions of ODAC women's soccer for a second time in program history as the Marlins earned a 1-0 victory over the University of Lynchburg on Sunday in the Trinder Center. The win affords VWU the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament field. The bracket is slated to be announced on Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. ET on www.ncaa.com

The deciding tally came in the 74th minute when Abby Peterson slotted a perfect thru-pass to Olivia Bryant a few yards into the penalty box in line with the far post. Bryant calmly used a left foot to send a shot back across goal and into the side-netting for the game's lone score.

Virginia Wesleyan (12-5-2) is now the owners of two ODAC women's soccer trophies. The Marlins pair this year's hardware with the plaque they took home for winning the 2006 crown. The Marlins are no stranger to conference championship matches, however, with Sunday's affair marking their 11th foray into the final ODAC game. Seven of those appearances have come since the 2008 season.

Tune back in on Monday to learn where Virginia Wesleyan will be heading in the NCAA Tournament and which ODAC teams may join the Marlins in the 64-team field. To watch the selection show at 1:00 p.m. ET, go to the Division III women's soccer page at www.ncaa.com. Once available, the show will appear in the main content area.
