2023 ODAC Golf Tournament News

April 30, 2023
In a stroke of great luck from the powers that be in the golf world, the ODAC Women's Golf Championship concluded a full slate of 54 holes at Old Trail Golf Club in Crozet, Va. Washington and Lee University won its fifth straight league trophy behind its second straight sub-300 team round to finish at 50-over 902, 21 strokes clear of runner-up University of Lynchburg. Generals first-year Julia Haetzel posted the lone under-par round of the tournament to propel her to the top of the leaderboard and individual medalist honors by one stroke over Lynchburg's Emily Brubaker, last season's individual champion. In addition to team and tournament awards, the All-ODAC Women's Golf Awards were announced following the tournament. W&L's Megan Kanaby collected her second ODAC Golfer of the Year honor, pairing this with the recognition she received as the league's top player in 2021. Kanaby was also tabbed the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year.  Lynchburg mentor Mike Veverka secured ODAC Coach of the Year laurels, while Randolph-Macon College freshman Elli Flinchum was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year. April 29, 2023
As dreary as Friday's weather conditions were for the start of the ODAC Women's Golf Tournament, that's how beautiful the setting was on Saturday for round two at Old Trail Golf Club in Crozet, Va. Washington and Lee University took advantage of the much-improved conditions to sprint out to a 16-stroke advantage over the University of Lynchburg with 36 holes in the books. The individual leaderboard is much tighter. Lynchburg's Emily Brubaker continues her bid for back-to-back ODAC medalist honors, but her lead is just two shots over Amani Narang from Sweet Briar College and three strokes over Julia Haetzel and Megan Kanaby from Washington and Lee. Weather is not expected to be in the players' favor on Sunday as the event tries to reach is intended 54-hole conclusion. More rain is likely with the threat of thunderstorms throughout the night and into the afternoon hours on Sunday is possible. The current plan for play on Sunday is to begin with nine holes in a "shotgun" start format at 9:30 a.m. ET. Players will play the front nine first before an attempt to start play on the back nine begins. ODAC and course officials will consult with weather professionals early Sunday morning to see if the 9:30 planned start can be achieved or if later windows will become available to resume play. If competition begins on Sunday, a full nine holes must be achieved. If any rounds are partial when play has to be suspended or ultimately canceled, the tournament would revert back to the last completed nine holes of golf. If play cannot be continued at all, the championship will be deemed final at 36 holes competed.

April 28, 2023
