R-MC's Albaugh and Bowling also Honored
CAPE CHARLES, Va. --- Hollins University junior
Elizabeth Cheng took home two major to highlight the first ODAC
Women's Golf All-Conference Awards. Cheng was named the
inaugural ODAC Player of the Year and the ODAC/Farm Bureau
Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Randolph-Macon College
mentor Leighann Albaugh was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year, and
Yellow Jacket newcomer Olivia Bowling received ODAC Rookie of the
Year laurels.
Cheng, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., starred on the course and
in the classroom. She maintains a 3.89 grade point average as
a Chemistry major. She is a two-time NGCA All-American
Scholar as well as a Hollins University honor student. She
won both the American Chemical Society Award and the Judith Gregory
Smith Award in 2012, and is in line for her first All-ODAC Academic
Team honor. On the course, Cheng capped the ODAC season by
tying for second at the conference Championships and owns the
league's best individual average at 79.4 strokes per round.
In nine events, she placed in the top-10 eight times with seven
top-five finishes. She won three events on the season,
posting her victories at the McDaniel Fall Invitational, the
Generals Invitational, and the Jekyll Island Women's
Intercollegiate.
Albaugh, in her first full season at Randolph-Macon, guided the
Yellow Jackets to the team title in the conference championships,
topping Hollins by 10 strokes (719-729). Her team placed in
the top five three times, including third at the Generals
Invitational and fourth at the Methodist Spring Invitational.
Albaugh has previous coaching experience at the University of
Richmond and as the head coach pro at Hollows Golf Club.
Bowling, a freshman from Charlotte Hall, Md., save her best
performance for last as she claimed ODAC individual medalist honors
with rounds of 87 and 79 (166) to win the conference tournament by
four strokes over HU's Cheng and Shelby Estes. Bowling had a
pair of top-five finishes, adding a fifth place showing at the
Generals' Invitational to her ODAC finish. She placed second
in the conference with an 84.6 per round average.
