2023 ODAC Baseball Tournament News

Shenandoah University put the University of Lynchburg in an 8-0 after SU batted in the fourth inning, but Lynchburg climbed all the way back powered by a seven-run sixth inning to earn an 11-9 victory and lift its 10th conference trophy following the ODAC Baseball Tournament title game on Pitt Field at the University of Richmond on Saturday afternoon.

Weather may have extended the opening weekend of the ODAC Baseball Tournament by a day, but there's not much better than bonus baseball...especially in the ODAC! Top-seeded University of Lynchburg punched its ticket to the final weekend on Monday afternoon, completing the set of four teams that will be competing at Pitt Field at the University of Richmond. Joining Lynchburg in the double-elimination three-day affair is second-seeded Shenandoah University, third-seeded Roanoke College, and fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon College.

Weather this weekend forced the ODAC regular season to extend by a couple of days, but the 2023 baseball schedule is now complete. Hornets headline the eight-team championship field led by top-seed University of Lynchburg (19-3) and defending champion Shenandoah University (18-4) as the #2 seed. ODAC teams will compete over two weekends to determine the conference champion and which school will earn the league's automatic entry into the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship bracket. The first weekend will feature the top four seeds hosting the lower four seeded teams in four best-of-three series. Those games are slated for Friday-Saturday, May 5-7. Days for the games could be altered due to graduation ceremonies on member campuses. The four series winners will be reseeded (if necessary) and continue competition at Pitt Field on the campus of the University of Richmond. The double-elimination competition is slated for Thursday-Saturday, May 11-13.

2022 ODAC Baseball Tournament News

Shenandoah University's success in the ODAC Baseball Tournament since becoming a member of the ODAC in 2012-13 continued on Sunday afternoon as the Hornets capped an unbeaten weekend at Truist Point ballpark with a 13-0 victory over Roanoke College to secure the 2022 conference championship. Shenandoah (34-10-1) has now won four ODAC baseball trophies with three coming since 2018. The win on Sunday in High Point, N.C., also brings with it the conference's automatic entry into the NCAA Division III Tournament. That field will be announced Monday at noon ET via selection show on NCAA.com.

The University of Lynchburg saw three players earn special individual honors and seven standouts pick up all-conference team selections to headline the 2022 All-ODAC Baseball Awards. Shenandoah University earned six team selections and one special recognition. Bridgewater College and Randolph-Macon College features five team picks with the Eagles securing the final special honor. Lynchburg outfield Avery Neaves earned ODAC Player of the Year honors, while Bridgewater righty Reid Long garnered ODAC Pitcher of the Year laurels. Lynchburg mentor Lucas Jones collected ODAC Coach of the Year recognition from his peers, while Hornets' starter Nick Mattfield received ODAC Rookie of the Year distinction. Shenandoah first baseman Pearce Bucher was tabbed the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the league's athletic communication personnel.

Weather predicted for the High Point, N.C., area this weekend has prompted the ODAC to make preemptive changes to the game schedule for the upcoming final weekend of the ODAC Baseball Tournament.

PJ Alvanos belted a two-run game-tying homer and Avery Combs pinch-hit single plated the deciding run as the University of Lynchburg scored three times in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk off with a 9-8 victory over Shenandoah University in the third game of the ODAC Baseball Tournament championship series.

The 2021 ODAC Baseball Tournament features a familiar feel to start the event, but the progression of the eight-team tourney takes on a new look this season. The field's top seed required tiebreakers to determine, with Randolph-Macon College earning the #1 position over the University of Lynchburg. ODAC baseball moved to a best-of-three series format to start the tournament a couple of years go. That remains in effect this season with each of the top-four seeds hosting series on Saturday and Sunday, May 8-9. That format will continue throughout two more rounds of competition. Two more series will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 15-16, at the higher of the two seeds for both matchups. The champion will be determined on Friday and Saturday, May 21-22, with the final series at the highest remaining seed. The previously mentioned dates should be considered flexible as the event works thru possible weather situations and graduation/commencement ceremonies.

2019 ODAC Baseball Tournament News

Shenandoah University became the first back-to-back champion in ODAC baseball in 15 years on Saturday afternoon as the Hornets recovered from a 5-1 setback in the first title game to post a 5-4 triumph over Randolph-Macon College in the winner-take-all final showdown to secure the league hardware. With the victory, the Hornets earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

Randolph-Macon College earned a 5-1 victory over Shenandoah University in the first of two possible championship games on Saturday in Salem. That forces a "winner-take-all" showdown for the conference hardware. Weather, however, has caused the tarp to be pulled at Haley Toyota Field at Salem Memorial Ballpark, pushing back the start time of the tourney's final contest.

Randolph-Macon College earned three of the five major individual honors in a vote of the league's head coaches, highlighting the 2019 All-ODAC Baseball Awards. Yellow Jackets third baseman Mike Nickles was named the ODAC Player of the Year, while righthander Nick Roth received ODAC Pitcher of the Year laurels. R-MC mentor Ray Hedrick repeated as the ODAC Coach of the Year. Versatile infielder and pitcher Garrett Jackson from the University of Lynchburg secured ODAC Rookie of the Year distinction. Roanoke College third baseman Jack Howard took home the final major honor as he earned ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition from the conference's sports information directors.

The No. 18 Shenandoah University baseball team claimed its second-ever ODAC championship with an 8-4 win in 10 innings over No. 13 Roanoke College Sunday afternoon.

A thunderstorm in the Lynchburg area has postponed further play in the ODAC Baseball Tournament on Friday evening. Games are scheduled to continue on Saturday at City Stadium.

Just two games were needed in all four best-of-three series to determine the final four squads in the ODAC Baseball Tournament's new format. Randolph-Macon College, Virginia Wesleyan University, Roanoke College, and Shenandoah University will head to City Stadium in Lynchburg, Va., for three days of double-elimination play for the right to hoist the league hardware on May 11-13.

Roanoke College made good on its first appearance in the ODAC baseball championship game as the Maroons defeated Washington and Lee University twice on Sunday to capture the programs first conference title and secure the ODAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Weather predicted for the Lynchburg-area has again for ODAC officials and tournament personnel to alter the 2017 ODAC Baseball Tournament schedule. Games slated for Friday, May 5, will now be pushed back two hours with the first game between #1 Shenandoah University and #6 Roanoke College beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET.

Two ties had plenty to do with the assignment of seeds in the upcoming ODAC Baseball Tournament, one of which dealt with determining the top seed in the six-team tournament field. Shenandoah University, ranked #1 in NCAA Division III by D3baseball.com/NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball, enters the tournament as the top seed via tiebreakers over second-seeded Washington and Lee University. The conference's second step, which awards points to each victory in league play, was used to sift thru the stalemate.

Randolph-Macon College withstood a comeback effort from Hampden-Sydney College in the top of the ninth inning on Sunday to lock up the program's sixth overall ODAC baseball trophy at Liberty Baseball Stadium in Lynchburg, Va. The win awards the Yellow Jackets the ODAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.

Four days of competition in the ODAC Baseball Tournament is slated to begin on Thursday, April 28. To ensure that takes place with unfavorable weather probable in the Lynchburg area, the first day of the tournament will be moved to Liberty Baseball Stadium on the campus of Liberty University. The remaining three days of competition will return to Lynchburg City Stadium beginning on Friday.

The ODAC baseball standings were packed heading into the final day, with several possibilities for ties existing for seeds in the conference postseason. Results took care of all but one of those scenarios on Saturday, with Shenandoah University pulling ahead to secure the top seed in next week's ODAC Baseball Tournament.

The No. 8/10 Shenandoah baseball team claimed the university's first-ever ODAC Championship with a 4-2 victory over Virginia Wesleyan Sunday at Lynchburg City Stadium. Darrell Thompson threw a complete game six-hitter for the Hornets (27-8-1) in winner take all championship game of the tournament. VWC (19-14) forced that final contest with a 9-8 victory in the first game of the day.

Second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan snapped a 2-2 tie with a run in the sixth and added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth to defeat third-seeded Randolph-Macon 5-3 in an elimination game Sunday afternoon in the 2015 ODAC Baseball Tournament at City Stadium.

The Roanoke College baseball team battled to the final inning, but fell in their third game of the 2015 ODAC Baseball Championships, 3-2 to Virginia Wesleyan. The Maroons close the season with a record of 17-15, while the Marlins advanced to play #3 seed Randolph-Macon, a game that is currently suspended to Sunday.

Tyler Hoffman gave Bridgewater the lead with a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning and Robert Gallet and Corey Armentrout kept Shenandoah off the board in the final two innings as the Eagles claimed the 2014 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball championship Sunday with a 6-5 victory over Shenandoah at City Stadium. The ODAC title is the 14th in program history and the first since the 2010 season

Fresh off a tight 8-7 victory over Bridgewater in the originally scheduled ODAC Baseball Tournament championship game on Monday, Randolph-Macon carried its momentum into the second contest, completing a two-game run to the 2013 conference title with a 6-2 victory over the Eagles in Salem, Va. The Yellow Jackets earn the conference’s automatic entry into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Michael Kenah launched a sacrifice fly scoring junior Ashton Paige for the winning run in the eighth inning on Sunday as the Lynchburg baseball team defeated Bridgewater, 2-1, for LC's first ODAC title since 1990. It is the eighth overall conference crown for Lynchburg, who now earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

R-MC reliever Dale Langford got out of a bases loaded, no out jam in the bottom of the ninth to secure the Yellow Jackets' 6-5 win over Bridgewater and a bid to the ODAC Baseball Tournament Championship game Friday in Lynchburg. Randolph-Macon Baseball will now play at 1:00 Saturday at City Stadium in Lynchburg, VA and their opponent is still to be determined.

Bridgewater College knew it had to win twice on Sunday to go home with some hardware, and the Eagles came through as they beat Lynchburg College in both the scheduled championship game and the double-elimination "if necessary" game. Casey Hartman (above) fired seven innings to propel BC to the win.

The pairings are set for the 2010 ODAC Baseball Tournament with a new team atop those qualified. Bridgewater College (19-17-1 overall, 14-4 ODAC) enters as the top seed despite its season ending loss to Lynchburg College in a replay of the 14 inning affair that ended in a tie a few weeks earlier.
