VWC, R-MC, and GC All Represented
FOREST, Va. --- The NCAA Division III
released its second week of regional rankings for basketball on
Wednesday. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has
three schools ranked in the men's South Region poll, while Virginia
Wesleyan College is the sole ODAC representative on the women's
side.
League-leading Virginia Wesleyan (20-3 overall) is ranked second
behind region-leading Mary Hardin Baylor who sports a 22-1 overall
mark and leads the American Southwest Conference (ASC) standings.
Virginia Wesleyan barely escaped an overtime victory over Lynchburg
College on Wednesday night and has two games remaining on its
conference schedule before the start of the ODAC Tournament next
week. The Marlins host Emory & Henry College on Saturday
followed by Washington and Lee University on Sunday.
Randolph-Macon College is third in the rankings, sporting a 20-4
overall mark after defeating non-conference opponent Ferrum College
on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets have a tough match-up ahead
of them on Saturday traveling to rival Hampden-Sydney Collegefor
their last regular- season game.
Guilford College is the final ODAC squad in the men’s
regional rankings. The Quakers are seventh in the poll behind USA
South conference member Christopher Newport. GC is 17-7 on the
season after defeating Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday night.
Virginia Wesleyan is the sole ODAC representative in the South
Region women’s rankings. The Marlins lead the conference with
a 16-2 conference record and 19-4 overall mark. VWC will be on the
road for its final two games of the season traveling to Hollins on
Friday night and playing Roanoke College on Saturday. ASC member
Louisiana College leads the women’s poll with a 19-3 overall
mark.
The ODAC men’s and women’s basketball tournaments begin
next week with the men’s play-in games scheduled for Tuesday
evening. The women’s quarterfinals begin play at the Salem
Civic Center on Thursday, February 23 followed by the men’s
quarters on Friday. Semifinals and finals will be held Saturday and
Sunday, respectively. Pairings for the tournament will be released
this weekend following the last regular-season conference
contests.
