ODAC Players of the Week

FOOTBALL
SEAN STEWART, Hampden-Sydney, Sophomore,
Safety
Stewart, a sophomore from Alexandria,
Va., patrolled the middle of the field for H-SC's defense from his
strong safety position, tallying a game-high 11 tackles on seven
solo stops and four assisted. He also added 2.5 tackles-for-loss
for a total of 12 yards. In addition, he forced a fumble that the
Tigers were able to recover in the first quarter. Stewart helped
the Tigers hold Ferrum to one touchdown per-half in opening the
season 3-0.

FOOTBALL
KYLE VANCE, Hampden-Sydney, Senior, Wide
Receiver
Vance, a senior from Onley, Va., broke
Hampden-Sydney’s single-game record for receiving yards as he
tallied 228 yards and a touchdown on 14 receptions. Vance started
out the day with two 19-yard receptions – including one
touchdown – on the Tigers’ first drive of the game that
lasted under two minutes. Three of his other four receptions in the
first quarter went for double digit yardage, including a 40-yard
reception – his high for the day. He added three more
receptions in the second quarter to end the half with 10 receptions
for 155 yards and a score. He continued his work into the second
half, with four catches for 33-, 18-, 7-, and 15-yards. Over the
past two weeks, Vance has made 25 catches for 398 yards and five
touchdowns.

FIELD HOCKEY
LINDSAY LEONARD, Lynchburg, Junior,
Attack
Leonard, a junior from Yorktown, Va.,
picks up her second weekly award of the 2011 campaign. Leonard
helped Lynchburg to a 3-0 week that including shutout victories
over Stevenson (8-0) and St. Mary's (10-0) and a 2-1 upset of then
#1 ranked Messiah. Leonard scored in all three games as she notched
four goals and three assists for 11 points on the week. Against
Messiah, she scored LC's first goal and dished out the assist on
the game-winning tally. She went on to add one goal in the win over
Stevenson, and then recorded two goals and two helpers in the
whitewashing of St. Mary's. Leonard currently leads the ODAC in
points (23) and goals scored (9), and is tied atop the league in
assists (5).

MEN'S SOCCER
COREY SINDLE, Randolph, Sophomore,
Forward
Sindle, a sophomore from Gloucester,
Va., arguably the biggest goal in Randolph men's soccer history on
Sunday, as his game-winner in double overtime lifted Randolph
College past No. 15 Maryville College on the road. Sindle had a
game high seven shots on the afternoon, none bigger than his last
one in double OT, which gave Randolph its first win over a ranked
opponent in program history. Earlier in the week, Sindle scored
once and assisted on two others in a 4-1 win over Ferrum
College.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
DESSI DUPUY, Lynchburg, Freshman,
Forward
Dupuy, a freshman from Lynchburg, Va.,
led the Hornets to a pair of shutout victories by notching 10
points on the week with four goals and two assists. Dupuy scored
twice and dished out a pair of assists to have a hand in four of
LC's five goals in a 5-0 win over Methodist. She followed that up
with two more goals in a 9-0 victory over Sweet Briar to open LC's
ODAC schedule. Dupuy is currently fourth in the ODAC in points (12)
and goals scored (5).

VOLLEYBALL
MALLORY CARTER, Randolph-Macon, Junior,
Outside Hitter
Carter, a junior from Moseley, Calif.,
picks up her second weekly award of the 2011 season. Carter helped
R-MC to a 4-0 week, with three of those wins being against ODAC
foes and one victory against previously unbeaten Mary Washington.
Carter recorded at least 11 kills in each of the four matches and
had double digits in three of the four wins as well. She opened the
week with 19 kills and 23 digs over Mary Washington, before helping
R-MC rally to a 3-1 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday
with 18 kills and 18 digs. This weekend she had 17 kills and eight
digs against Emory and Henry and closed out the week with 11 kills
and 12 digs in a win over Guilford. She finished the week with 65
kills and 61 digs as well as eight aces and four block assists.

CROSS COUNTRY
CHAD NORTON, Guilford,
Sophomore
Norton, a sophomore from Walled Lake,
Mich., finished 15th overall and was the first NCAA Division III
runner to cross the finish line at the Adidas Cross Country
Challenge hosted by N.C. State. Norton shattered the Quaekrs'
five-kilometer race record as he posted the event's top
non-Division I time of 15:24.9 seconds. He bettered teammate Derick
Kosgei's standard of 15:51 set last season.

CROSS COUNTRY
EMMA HELSEL, Virginia Wesleyan,
Freshman
Emma Helsel, freshman from Marshall,
Va., set a VWC record in the 5K with a time of 19:35.9, breaking
the former record of 19:41.36 set by Ashley Roane in 2008. Helsel
was the first NCAA Division III runner to finish in the adidas
Cross Country Challenge hosted by North Carolina State University.
Her effort helped VWC to place fifth in the field of 10 teams.
