FOOTBALL
Byron Mitchell, Shenandoah, Sr., Def.
Back
Mitchell, a senior from Virginia
Beach, Va., helped Shenandoah pick up its first win of the 2013
season and the head coaching career of Scott Yoder with a 43-29 win
over Ferrum. Mitchell made seven stops with a tackle for a loss
from the Hornets' defensive backfield, but his two biggest plays
came defending special teams. Late in the second quarter, Mitchell
returned possession to SU by forcing and recovering a fumble on a
punt return. On Ferrum's next possession, Mitchell blocked a punt
and the resulting loose ball went out of the back of the end zone
for a safety. That jumpstarted a run of 22 unanswered points from
the Hornets as they out-scored Ferrum, 36-8, over the final 33
minutes of the game.
