FOOTBALL
Byron Mitchell, Shenandoah, Sr., Def.
Back
Mitchell, a senior from Virginia
Beach, Va., picks up his second weekly award of the season after
helping the Hornets to their first-ever ODAC win on Saturday.
Mitchell posted an ODAC-high 13 tackles, including 11 solo stops.
He also made 3.5 stops in the Bridgewater backfield, 2.5 of which
were quarterback sacks. One of his sacks forced an Eagles' fumble,
which led to the second of two Andrew Smith first-half touchdown
runs. Mitchell struck again in the fourth quarter after BC had
already put up 13 points in a comeback bid. Mitchell forced and
recovered a fumble with 4:15 to play, helping SU secure the win.
Mitchell is currently tied for first in the ODAC with 38 tackles,
and his three forced fumbles top the league charts.

FOOTBALL
Will McGhee, Randolph-Macon, Sr., Running
Back
McGhee, a senior from Fishersville,
Va., played a prototypical feature back role for the second time in
as many games as the Yellow Jackets topped Emory & Henry,
45-20. McGhee proved a workhorse and game-breaker in carrying the
ball 28 times and churning out 218 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
He has eclipsed 200 yards in each of R-MC's past two games,
registering five touchdown runs in the process. McGhee's first TD
run on Saturday was for four yards, but he electrified the crowd at
Day Field with his second scoring run, which covered a
school-record 99 yards as the game’s final touchdown. Over
his past two games, McGhee has racked up 514 of his ODAC-leading
679 rushing yards. He also leads the ODAC with 169.8 rushing yards
per game.

FIELD HOCKEY
Carrie Jacobs, Randolph-Macon, Jr.,
Back
Jacobs, a junior from Orange, Va.,
helped the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0 week in ODAC play by notching 10
total points. She opened her week with a goal and an assist in a
3-1 win over Roanoke. She backed that up with three goals and one
assist for seven total points in a 5-3 road win at Virginia
Wesleyan. Jacobs is currently third in the ODAC with 17 points on
six goals and five assists.

GOLF
Tanner Gross, Guilford,
Fr.
Gross, a freshman from Archdale, N.C.,
tied for 10th with a 3-over 219 at the 54-hole Gordin Classic at
the Columbus Country Club in Columbus, Ohio. Gross opened his
tourney with a 2-under 70 on the par-72, 6,968-yard layout. He
posted a 4-over 76 in round two, but rebounded with a 1-over 73
covering the final 18 holes. Gross' efforts helped lead Guilford to
a fifth place team showing of 12 squads, 11 of which finished in
the top-20 at the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

MEN'S SOCCER
Blake Heatherly, Randolph, Fr.,
Defender
Heatherly, a freshman from
Jacksonville, N.C., helped the No. 21 WildCats to a pair of
conference wins, extending Randolph's program-best winning streak
to 10 games (9-0-1 over that stretch). Heatherly opened his week
with a 40-yard game-winner via a free kick in a 2-1 road triumph at
Randolph-Macon. He again struck from the set-piece at Eastern
Mennonite, scoring Randolph's first goal in a 2-1 extra-time win
over the Royals. Heatherly now has eight points on three goals and
two assists.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Nathalie Torries, Roanoke, So.,
Midfielder
Torres, a sophomore from Wilmington,
Del., helped lead the Maroons to a pair of ODAC wins last week. She
opened with two goals in a 5-0 win at home against Sweet Briar. She
followed that with one more tally in a 4-0 triumph at
Randolph-Macon. The two wins snapped a six-game winless streak for
the Maroons, including four consecutive 1-0 losses. Torres now has
six points on the season.

VOLLEYBALL
Tori Puryear, Randolph-Macon, Sr., Middle
Hitter
Puryear, a senior from Madison, Va.,
spearheaded the Yellow Jackets effort in defeating 24th-ranked
Christopher Newport, 3-1. The Captains have eliminated R-MC from
two of the past three NCAA tournaments, but the squads have split
their last four meetings with CNU holding a 15-7 edge in the
all-time series. Puryear was the catalyst behind R-MC's latest win
against CNU, this one coming at home. Puryear hit .458 for the
match with 12 kills and just one error in 24 attacks. She notched
five total blocks and two digs defensively while accounting for a
team-high 14.5 points in the match. Puryear currently leads the
ODAC in block assists (60), total blocks (71) and blocks per game
(1.11).

CROSS COUNTRY
Andris Goncarovs, Guilford,
Sr.
Goncarovs, a senior from Ithaca, N.Y.,
picks up his second straight weekly honor as he won the NCAA
Division III class at the Hagan Stone Classic over the weekend. He
posted an eight-kilomter time of 25:35.78, marking the
second-fastest time of his career and the seventh-fastest in school
history. His efforts, along with that of second and third place
finishing teammates Chad Norton and David Cason, sequentially,
helped the Quakers to first in the team standings.

CROSS COUNTRY
Rain McKemie, Randolph,
Fr.
McKemie, a freshman from Rhoadesville,
Va., led Randolph College to second place in the NCAA Division III
team standings by placing seventh overall and third amongst D-III
competitors at the Hagan Stone Classic. She posted a five-kilometer
time of 20:44.47 in balmy North Carolina conditions.
