ODAC Athletes of the Week | Basketball

FOREST, Va. --- Basketball is the solo focus of this report before the ODAC swimming championships and the start of some spring sports this weekend. Those earning weekly awards in basketball are William Brueggeman and Erin Hughes from Washington and Lee.

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
William Brueggeman | Washington and Lee | Jr. | Guard
Brueggeman, a junior from Houston, Texas, picks up his second straight weekly award after helping Washington and Lee to a pair of ODAC victories to run their winning streak to six straight outings. Brueggeman was a part of a Generals' barrage from downtown last week as W&L tied and then set its team record for three-pointers in a game with 18 makes in a 100-87 win at Emory & Henry followed by 19 long-distance connections in a 90-61 triumph over Guilford. At Emory & Henry, Brueggeman was 6-of-11 from the field including 4-of-7 from deep on the way to 17 points. He added eight rebounds and three steals. Against Guilford, Brueggeman poured in 26 points on 7-of-13 shooting including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. He chipped in three rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a blocked shot. For the season, Brueggeman leads the ODAC in points scored (374) and scoring average (18.7). He is second in three-pointers made (60-of-151), third in field goals made (121-of-262) and free throws made (72-of-88), fourth in free throw shooting (81.8%), and fifth in defensive rebounds (124). He averages 6.9 boards per game.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Erin Hughes | Washington and Lee | Jr. | Guard
Hughes, a junior from Raleigh, N.C., picks up her second straight weekly honor after helping to keep Washington and Lee chugging with two more victories over ODAC teams to run the Generals' winning streak to a school-record nine straight outings. W&L is tied with Bridgewater at 11-2 atop the ODAC table. Hughes opened with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting in a 65-57 win at Shenandoah. She added five rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Her production improved a notch in W&L's second game as Hughes registered 19 points on 9-of-15 from the field in the Generals' 66-54 triumph over Guilford. She added eight rebounds to go with three assists and a pair of steals. For the season, Hughes is eighth in the ODAC in points scored (252) and 10th in scoring average (12.6) while averaging 6.0 rebounds per game. She is sixth in steals (41), eighth in field goals made (88-of-194), ninth in free throws made (62-of-82), and 10th in free throw shooting (75.6%).
