ODAC Athletes of the Week | Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Tennis

FOREST, Va. --- ODAC athletes continue to perform at a high level with week 14 featuring some of the best performances of the year. Those earning ODAC Athlete of the Week awards include (pictured from top and left): Zack Potts from Lynchburg baseball, Alex Braun from Emory & Henry softball, Kevin Navedo from Bridgewater baseball, Jenna Kuczo from Roanoke women's lacrosse, Cameron Derr from E&H softball, Stuart Greenspon from Washington and Lee men's lacrosse, Christine Zalameda from Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis, and Elijah Gregory from Guilford men's tennis.

Below are entries for all eight winners from today's multi-sport release. Stay tuned for track & field and volleyball awards on Tuesday followed by golf honors on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Cameron Derr | Emory & Henry | Sr. | Pitcher
Derr, a senior from Denver, N.C., put together a 1.0 ERA and two wins against ODAC competition last week to help the nationally 17th-ranked Wasps stay atop the league table and push Emory & Henry's winning streak to nine straight games. Derr opened the week with a complete-game five-hitter in an 8-1 win over Ferrum. She gave up one run while scattering those five hits. She walked five batters and fanned 11 Panthers over seven full frames. In a 2-1 win on the road at Bridgewater, Derr surrendered one run on just three hits. She walked six, but made up for that with 13 strikeouts to give her 24 punchouts over 14.0 innings for the week. On the season, Derr leads the ODAC with 101 strikeouts. She is 10-1 with a 3.30 ERA over 70.0 innings pitched. The opposition is hitting .199 against her.

BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Zack Potts | Lynchburg | So. | Pitcher
Potts, a sophomore from Oilville, Va., put together a pair of strong starts to help Lynchburg to a pair of ODAC victories. In a matchup with nationally 12th-ranked Randolph-Macon, Potts started and went the first 5.1 innings of the midweek affair, surrendering one run on five hits before exiting. He walked two and struck out two and took a no decision in the Hornets 3-1 win. Potts returned to the hill on Sunday and went the distance in a 2-1 victory over Eastern Mennonite. He gave up one run on three hits over nine frames. He walked one and struck out eight. After giving up a fourth inning single, Potts did not allow another EMU baserunner until the leadoff batter in ninth inning reached via error. That broke string of 14 batters retired in a row. For the season, Potts is now 5-0 over 10 appearances including four starts. He owns a 2.94 ERA and has struck out 52 batters over 49.0 innings of work.

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alex Braun | Emory & Henry | Sr. | Outfielder/Pitcher
Braun, a senior from Lexington, S.C., put together a strong week both at the dish and in the circle as she helped nationally 17th-ranked Emory & Henry to a 4-0 week against ODAC opponents. With a bat in her hand, Braun slashed at .583/.643/1.000 in going 7-for-12 with a pair of doubles, a homer, six RBI and four runs scored over the Wasps four games. On the pitching plate, she started twice and earned a pair of complete game victories with 18 strikeouts over 14.0 innings of work. In a sweep of Ferrum, she went 3-for-3 in game one with a two-run homer to spot E&H a 2-0 lead on the way to an 8-1 win. In game two, she doubled in addition to shutting out the Panthers, 1-0. She scattered five hits and walked a pair while fanning seven batters over 7.0 frames in the circle. Braun began a road sweep of Bridgewater by going 1-for-4 and scoring the eventual game-winning run in a 2-1 win. In a 7-4 victory in game two, she went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI while scoring twice and walking once. In the circle, she gave up four runs on eight hits with walks and 11 strikeouts in seven innings. For the season at the plate, Braun leads the ODAC in batting (.564), OBP (.595), slugging (1.013), doubles (17) and homers (6). She is second in hits (44), RBI (32), and total bases (79) and third in runs (27). In the circle, she is 10-2 with a save in 13 appearances including 12 starts. She has struck out 92 batters, the second most in the ODAC, and owns a 1.93 ERA in 79.2 innings of work. She has posted complete games in all 12 starts.

BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kevin Navedo | Bridgewater | Sr. | 2nd Base
Navedo, a senior from Harrisonburg, Va., was a run-producing juggernaut for the Eagles in their 4-0 week against ODAC competition. Navedo slashed at .500/.524/1.063 with five extra-base hits, 12 RBI and six runs scored over Bridgewater's four outings. In a 6-5 victory over Eastern Mennonite, Navedo did not register a hit, but he drove in three runs and scored once. He turned up the production in 13-10 victory at Ferrum as he went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Navedo registered five hits and six RBI in a sweep on the road at Guilford. He doubled twice and homered in game one, driving in two runs and scoring twice with a walk in a 13-6 victory. In game two, he went 2-for-3 with a solo shot, four RBI, a run scored, and two walks on the way to a 15-3 Eagles triumph. For the season, Bridgewater's second baseman boasts a .305/.358/.593 slash line with three homers and 18 RBI.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jenna Kuczo | Roanoke | Sr. | Attack
Kuczo, a senior from Fairfield, Conn., helped the Maroons to a pair of key ODAC wins to move Roanoke into solo second place in the league table and extend RC's winning streak to three straight games. Kuczo opened with three goals and one assist in the Maroons 11-9 road win at Lynchburg. She tallied Roanoke's first goal to help them recover from a 3-1 early deficit on the way to a 6-6 halftime score. She scored twice in the second frame, including RC's 10th goal to put the Maroons ahead for good with 5:50 to play. Kuczo then poured in a career-best five goals with three ground balls in a 20-8 triumph over Randolph-Macon. She scored three times in a first half that saw the Maroons post a 15-4 halftime advantage. For the season, Kuczo has registered 20 points on 17 goals and three assists.

MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Stuart Greenspon | Washington and Lee | Sr. | Attack/Midfield
Greenspon, a senior from Aldie, Va., posted a 10-point week in helping Washington and Lee to a pair of ODAC wins last week. Greenspon scored three time and dished out three assists in the Generals 25-4 road win at Ferrum on Saturday. He added three ground balls to his line. Greenspon followed with four assists and a ground ball in W&L's 17-1 win over Shenandoah on Sunday. For the season, Greenspon has racked up 29 points on 18 goals and 11 assists, which leads Washington and Lee in all three categories.

WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Christine Zalameda | Virginia Wesleyan | Jr. | #2/3 Singles | #2 Doubles
Zalameda, a junior from Poquoson, Va., helped Virginia Wesleyan to a 3-0 week against ODAC competition by going 5-0 in her matches. In a 7-0 victory over Guilford, Zalameda and partner Anna Rogers posted an 8-3 win over Hannah Arnett and Bea Niybizi at #2 doubles. Zalameda was leading her #2 singles match, 6-3, 3-6, 3-2, when the decision was rendered for the match. In a 9-0 victory over Ferrum, Zalameda and Rogers bested Sarah Estes and Morgan Hundley, 8-0, at #2 doubles. Zalameda added a 6-0, 6-0 win over Hundley at #3 singles. Virginia Wesleyan closed the week with an 8-1 victory at Shenandoah. Zalameda and Rogers earned an 8-2 result over Madison Hansen and Madison Rogers at #2 doubles. Zalameda picked up her second straight sets win of the week via a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Lily Kimble.

MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Elijah Gregory | Guilford | Sr. | #2-3 Singles | #1 Doubles
Gregory, a senior from Advance, N.C., helped the Quakers to a 2-1 week in which he went a combined 6-0 between singles and doubles play. His efforts helped Guilford to a pair of ODAC wins to keep them in the hunt at the top of the league table. Gregory and doubles partner Joe Horne posted a trio of wins from the top flight. That began with an 8-3 triumph over Tyler Brice and Andrew Donelson in the Quakers' 9-0 at Hampden-Sydney. The duo earned an 8-2 victory over Canon Second and Nick Kiser in a 7-2 victory over Bridgewater. Gregroy and Horne then earned an 8-4 result over Trent Harner and Coleman Baker in GC's non-conference loss to Methodist, 6-3. Gregory's singles wins against H-SC and BC came from the #3 position. He defeated H-SC's Bryson Alley, 6-0, 6-3, and topped BC's Kiser 6-0, 6-2. He moved p to the #2 spot against Methodist and posted a 6-1, 6-4 win over Henry Murray.
