ODAC Announces 2020-21 All-Academic Team

Conference Honors 2,560 Student-Athletes

Updated: August 25, 2021

FOREST, Va. --- ODAC student-athletes have not only persevered in their athletic arenas during the COVID-19 pandemic, but they have thrived in the classroom with 2,560 individuals earning recognition on the 2020-21 ODAC All-Academic Team.

Despite unfamiliar and new learning environments at member schools, honorees on the ODAC's annual academic listing eclipsed 2,500 individuals for a second straight season. This is also the fourth instance in the last five years that the total number of honorees has crossed the 2,000 plateau. The conference's record of 2,681 members was established in 2019-20.

Eligibility for the ODAC All-Academic Team is open to any student-athlete that competes in a conference-sponsored sport, regardless of academic class. Prospective honorees must achieve at least a 3.25 grade point average for the academic year to be considered for an ODAC All-Academic Team recognition. In consideration of the abbreviated seasons experienced in 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, eligibility was extended to rostered athletes in all ODAC sponsored sports for the academic year.

For a second straight year, a dozen ODAC member schools saw 100 or more student-athletes represent their colors on the ODAC All-Academic Team. That includes four schools that eclipsed 200 honorees, the same number of schools that achieved that feat last season. Washington and Lee University topped the chart with 442 student-athletes earning all-academic distinction. The University of Lynchurg (259) and Roanoke College (211) set records for the second time in as many years. Randolph-Macon College (236) came up a little shy of its record set in 2019-20 (263).

Ferrum College (190) and Bridgewater College (186) topped their previous school-records, while Shenandoah University (181) and Virginia Wesleyan University (163) remained amongst the league's highest honorees. Emory & Henry College (137) closed its ODAC membership by surpassing last year's school-record (132). Hampden-Sydney College (119) also set a new benchmark, while Eastern Mennonite University (107) and Guilford College (108) continued their multi-year streaks of 100-plus honorees.
