ODAC Athletes of the Week | Basketball

FOREST, Va. --- Week 16 marks the final reporting period of the 2021 calendar year. Basketball teams remained in action over the past week with the holiday break on the horizon. Those earning ODAC Athlete of the Week awards for Monday, December 20, include (pictured from left): Alec Topper from Bridgewater men's basketball and Olivia Harris from Lynchburg women's basketball.

Below are entries for each of the winners from today's release. Most weeks this winter, the following schedule will be used for awards reporting:

  • Mondays (resumes 1/3/22): basketball, swimming
  • Tuesdays: indoor track & field (once the season resumes)

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alec Topper | Bridgewater | So. | Forward
Topper, a sophomore from Monroe, N.C., put together a strong outing off the bench in the Eagles 108-80 victory at Bethany (W.Va.) on Friday. Topper shot 81.8-percent from the field thanks to a 9-for-11 showing that including a 3-for-4 day beyond the arc. He was also 5-of-6 at the line on the way to a career-high 26 points. He also set a new personal-best mark with a game-high 10 rebounds including four via the offensive glass. He added two steals and a blocked shot in his 28-minute shift. For the season, Topper is averaging 10.8 points per game. He is fifth in the ODAC in foul shooting at 82.6-percent (19-of-23) and is shooting 50.0-percent (36-of-72) from the field.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Olivia Harris | Lynchburg | Fy. | Guard
Harris, a first-year from Salem, Va., was nearly perfect in the Hornets lone game last week as Lynchburg took down Meredith College, 69-47, on Monday. Harris was 7-of-7 from the field including 2-of-2 from deep on the way to a season-high 16 points off the bench. She added four steals, two assists, and a rebound to her stat line. For the season, Harris is averaging 9.7 points per game. She is sixth in the ODAC in three-point shooting at 39.3-percent (11-of-28).
