ODAC Athletes of the Week | Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Tennis

FOREST, Va. --- ODAC teams finished up some late spring break trips in week 29 with a smattering of conference games populating weekly results. Those earning ODAC Athlete of the Week awards for Monday, March 21, include (pictured from left and top): Brett Lindsay from Eastern Mennonite baseball, Sarah Wimer from Bridgewater softball, Calvin Pastel from Shenandoah baseball, Reilly Cisar from SU women's lacrosse, Chris Martel from BC men's lacrosse, Christina Harris from Lynchburg women's tennis, Canon Secord from BC men's tennis, and Emily Seale from Virginia Wesleyan softball.

Below are entries for each of the winners from today's release. The following schedule will be used for awards reporting:

  • Mondays: baseball, softball, m/w lacrosse, and m/w tennis
  • Tuesdays: outdoor track & field
  • Wednesdays: m/w golf

BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Calvin Pastel | Shenandoah | Sr. | Starter
Pastel, a senior from Springfield, Va., picks up his first weekly award after helping nationally 16th-ranked Shenandoah to a 10-2 victory over Nichols College (Mass.). Pastel started and fired eight strong innings. He allowed one run on five hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out five Bison. He retired the first 10 batters he faced before allowing two singles in the fourth inning. He rolled up eight ground ball outs including a pair of double plays. For the season, Pastel is 2-0 in three starts. He owns a 2.41 ERA and has struck out 15 batters in 18.2 innings on the hill. Opponents are hitting .197 against him.

BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brett Lindsay | Eastern Mennonite | Sr. | Shortstop
Lindsay, a senior from Gloucester, Va., put together his strongest week of the season in leading Eastern Mennonite to a trio of ODAC victories. Lindsay went 7-for-13 (.538) overall with a .533 OBP and a 1.308 slugged percentage powered by a double and three home runs. He left the yard for the first time on the week in a 10-9 victory over Washington and Lee. He belted a solo shot in the fifth inning as part of a 2-for-4 day with a walk and two runs scored. Lindsay then went deep twice in game one of a two-game sweep (15-5, 18-9) on the road at Ferrum. He registered the first of his four RBI with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and then cracked a two-run homer to left in the seventh. He finished the game's scoring with a solo blast to left-center in the ninth. In game two, he went 3-for-5 with a two run double and five runs scored. For the season, Lindsay is fourth in the ODAC in hitting (.426), seventh in OBP (.500), and sixth in slugging (.705). He is tied for fourth in homers (4) and fifth in RBI (22).

MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chris Martel | Bridgewater | Sr. | Attackman
Martel, a senior from Linthicum, Md., put together an 11-point week in leading Bridgewater to a pair of victories to improve the Eagles' records atop the ODAC standings to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in league play. Martel scored twice in a 19-9 victory over North College College (Illinois). He scored BC's first goal of the game and then put the Eagles ahead for good at 10-9 with 12:41 to play. He also picked up two ground balls in the contest. On the weekend, Martel became the fourth player in program history to record at least nine points in a game in an 18-5 road win at Ferrum. He scored seven goals, matching his personal career-best output, and added two assists for a new career-high point total. For the season, Martel leads the ODAC in goals scored (38) and is second in points (43). He also leads the conference in shots (112) and shots on goal (69).

MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Canon Secord | Bridgewater | Sr. | #1 Singles | #1 Doubles
Secord, a senior from Harrisonburg, Va., picks up his second weekly award of the season after leading Bridgewater to a big conference win over Guilford. Secord, a two-time ODAC Player of the Year, joined Matthew Leonard for an 8-3 victory over Drake Schreiber and Evan Wong in top-flight doubles play. Secord went on to post a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Schreiber at #1 singles to help Bridgewater scratch out a 5-4 win over the ODAC preseason third-ranked Quakers.

SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Emily Seale | Virginia Wesleyan | So. | Pitcher
Seale, a sophomore from Madison, Va., earns her second weekly award of the season after going 3-0 over three starts and 20.0 innings in the circle to lead nationally third-ranked Virginia Wesleyan to a 6-0 week. The defending Division III champion Marlins have now won 10 straight games. Seale started game one of all three series. She went the distance in a 5-1 victory of Muhlenberg at home to kickoff the week. She allowed one run on five hits. She walked run and struck out four Mules. Two days later, Seale again fired all seven frames in a 6-1 win at N.C. Wesleyan. She gave up one run on four hits. She issued a pair of free passes, but fanned eight Bishops. Seale capped her week with six solid frames in a 14-1 victory over #13 Roanoke in an ODAC clash in Salem. She again surrendered one run on four hits. She walked two and registered six punchouts. For the season, Seale is joined by Roanoke's Jada Karnes and Randolph-Macon's Gracie Ellis with a league-best nine victories. Seale is 9-1 with two saves in 13 appearances including 10 starts. In 62.2 innings pitched, she has given up 22 runs (14) earned for a 1.56 ERA, good for fifth in the league. She has fanned the third-most (57) batters and allowed 54 hits for a .224 opponents batting average.

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sarah Wimer | Bridgewater | Sr. | Catcher
Wimer, a senior from Broadway, Va., brought out the big club as she slugged 1.250 over six games in helping Bridgewater to a 4-2 week. Wimer, who also hit .550 and posted a .571 OBP, went 11-for-20 overall with two doubles, four homers, six RBI, six runs scored, and walk over the half-dozen outings. In a sweep (10-2, 6-0) of Mary Baldwin, Wimer went 4-for-7 overall with a pair of doubles in game one and two solo blasts in game two. She again left yard in game one at Greensboro College as her two-run blast was part of a three-run eighth inning for a 4-1 win in extras. She went 4-for-8 overall in the split (4-1, 4-6) against The Pride. Wimer and the Eagles capped their week with a split (4-3, 1-2) against Pfeiffer. She walked and singled in game one, and then recorded her 100th career hit with a solo homer in game two as part of a two-hit effort. For the season, Bridgewater's catcher leads the ODAC in homers (6), RBI (22) and total bases (48). Her .873 slugging percentage is second, while her .455 batting average is fourth. She is third with 25 hits.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Reilly Cisar | Shenandoah | Jr. | Attack
Cisar, a junior from Aberdeen, Md., helped Shenandoah pick up a pair of close victories over quality non-conference opponents to improve the Hornets season record to 5-2. Cisar scored six points, all of which were needed as SU won the games by a combined three goals. She opened her week with two goals in regulation in Shenandoah's 7-6 win in overtime over Christopher Newport. Cisar scored the first goal of the game and then knotted the score 3-all in the second quarter. Her final contribution led to the game-winning tally as her assist unlocked Gabriella Raspanti with 1:33 remaining on the OT clock. Cisar also chipped in three draw controls. Later last week, Shenandoah went on the road for a 12-10 win at Widener. Cisar scored three times with two coming during SU's comeback from a 6-1 hole and her last marker proving the final goal of the game with 1:05 to play to seal the win. She was 1-for-1 on free position attempts and tacked on a caused turnover. For the season, Cisar has registered 21 points on 15 goals and six assists. She leads the ODAC in total shots taken (45).

WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Christina Harris | Lynchburg | Gr. | #1 Singles | #1 Doubles
Harris, a graduate student from Falls Church, Va., added to her star-studded career by going 8-0 between top flight singles and doubles matches in leading Lynchburg to four team victories and the program's first 9-0 start to a season. Harris, who is nearing 100 career singles victories, partnered twice with Alissa Anderson and Lauren Pascadlo each in doubles play. Harris and Anderson won 8-1 over Ricki Budewitz and Ashley Samuta as the Hornets kicked off play in the Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, S.C., with a 6-3 team win over Concordia Wisconsin. Harris then won 6-2, 6-2 in singles play over Budewitz. Lynchburg again posted a 6-3 win over Millikin. Harris and Pascadlo bested Emily Markus and Paige Will, 8-3, in doubles action with Harris topping Nikol Obradovic, 6-1, 6-2, in their singles matchup. Harris took down Grace Krueger, 6-1, 6-1, in the Hornets 6-3 win over Carroll (Wis.). She and Pascadlo earned an 8-5 win over Krueger and Ashley LaBelle in doubles play. Lynchburg capped its stay on the beach with an 8-1 win over Greenville. Harris and Anderson won 8-1 over Mireai Birosta and Addison Brannon. Harris earned a 6-1, 6-1, decision over Birosta, ending her singles matches that featured 48 out of 58 games won. Her career singles victory total stands at 95.
