ODAC Athletes of the Week | Field Hockey, Soccer, Volleyball

FOREST, Va. --- We are just two weeks into the new campaign and already ODAC teams are posting some impressive results with outstanding individual performances from many student-athletes. A few of those are featured in this first Monday report of the 2022 season with (pictured from left and top) Shenandoah's Mairead McKibbin (field hockey), Guilford's Madison Green (women's soccer), Randolph-Macon's Teddy Westervelt (men's soccer) and Roanoke's Peyton Kirchner (women's volleyball) earning ODAC Athlete of the Week laurels.

Below are entries for all four winners from today's multi-sport release. Most weeks this fall, the following schedule will be used for awards reporting:

  • Sundays: football (thru 11/13/22)
  • Mondays: field hockey, soccer, swimming (when it begins), volleyball, wrestling (when it begins)
  • Tuesdays: cross country
  • Wednesday: golf

FIELD HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mairead McKibbin | Shenandoah | So. | Forward/Midfielder
McKibbin, a sophomore from Magnolia, Del., continued her torrid start to the season with five more goals to help Shenandoah to a pair of non-conference victories on a road trip to Ohio. McKibbin scored twice in the Hornets 7-0 shutout at Kenyon College. She scored an unassisted effort in the 20th minute and then finished off a dish from Claudia Lenahan in the 50th minute. McKibbin then helped Shenandoah improve to 4-0 on the season with her third straight multi-goal game in a 6-1 win at the College of Wooster. She poked in a rebound for the game's first goal in the 17th minute. She then scored either side of halftime with a 28th minute tally off an assist from Farren Winter and an unassisted effort in the 34th minute. For the season, McKibbin leads the ODAC in points (20) and goals scored (10).

MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Teddy Westervelt | Randolph-Macon | So. | Forward
Westervelt, a sophomore from Philadelphia, Pa., helped Randolph-Macon to a pair of non-conference victories to improve the Yellow Jackets' record to 3-0-1 through their first four games. Westervelt scored his first goal of the season by finishing off a Grayson Woods assist just 2:21 into a 4-0 victory at Mary Baldwin University. He then registered his first collegiate multi-goal game with both of Randolph-Macon's goal in a 2-1 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran. He tied the game with an unassisted effort in the 14th minute, and then notched the eventual game-winner in the 21st minute, turning a Colton Howell feed into an assist. Through the first four games of the season, Westervelt has scored three goals with one assist for team-high seven points.

WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Madison Green | Guilford | Sr. | Defender
Green, a senior from Walnut Cove, N.C., helped Guilford improve to 4-0 atop the ODAC standings with a pair of non-conference victories over the past week. Green scored the Quakers second goal during its midweek contest against William Peace, beating the keeper in the 47th minute to give Guilford a 2-0 lead on the way to a 2-1 triumph. She then registered her third career multi-goal game in a 3-0 victory over Bob Jones University on Saturday. She finished off a pass from Sarah Hall in the 55th minute, and then notched the Quakers final goal a little over three minutes later via an unassisted score. Through four games, Green leads the ODAC in points (10) and goals scored (5).

VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Peyton Kirchner | Roanoke | So. | Middle Hitter
Kirchner, a sophomore from Williamsport, Md., was named MVP of the Maroons Classic after helping Roanoke to a 4-0 showing against non-conference competition. Kirchner registered 52 kills in 15 sets played, good for 3.47 winners per set. She posted a .424 overall attack percentage (52-13-92) to go with five aces, six digs, and eight blocks. She was responsible for 61.0 points earned for 4.1 per set. Kirchner started the tournament with a career-high 23 kills against just four errors on 40 swings for a .475 attack percentage in a 3-2 victory over Salem College. She added two digs, two blocks, and an ace to her line, helping her account for 25.0 points for the match. Kirchner finished the first day with 12 kills at a .381 clip with two aces, two digs, and two blocks in a 3-0 win over Methodist. On day two, the Maroons middle hitter opened with seven kills on a .357 attack percentage with four blocks in a 3-0 victory over N.C. Wesleyan. She capped her tournament with 10 kills on a .412 attack percentage with two aces and two digs in a 3-1 win over Mary Baldwin. For the season, Kirchner leads the ODAC in total points earned (130.0), is second in attack percentage (.377), third in total kills (103) and points earned per set (4.1), and sixth in kills per set (3.22).
