ODAC Athletes of the Week | Basketball, Wrestling

FOREST, Va. --- Week 16 marks the final ODAC weekly report of the 2022 calendar year with conference teams competing sporadically over the upcoming holiday season. Those earning ODAC Athlete of the Week awards for Monday, December 19, include (pictured left-right): Omari DeVeaux from Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball, Kaden Bryan and Christian Johnson-Hunte from Shenandoah wrestling, and Lindsay Gauldin from Guilford women's basketball.

Below are entries for all four winners from today's release. The schedule below will be used for reporting ODAC Athletes of the Week:

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Omari DeVeaux | Virginia Wesleyan | So. | Guard
DeVeaux, a sophomore from Henrico, Va., went the length of the floor with 0:04 on the floor to sink the game-winning bucket as time expired in Virginia Wesleyan's 77-76 victory over nationally top-ranked Christopher Newport University over the weekend. DeVeaux led all players with a career-high 27 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field. He canned two of the three jumpers he attempted from beyond the arc and buried 7-of-8 shots from the foul line. He added six rebounds with five assists and two steals. For the season, DeVeaux is averaging 13.9 points per game, having scored the seventh-most (153) total points in the ODAC. He is third in the league in free throw shooting (85.0%), sixth in assists (37), and ninth in free throws made (34-of-40).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lindsay Gauldin | Guilford | Gr. | Forward
Gauldin, a graduate student from Stokesdale, N.C., averaged 24.5 points and shot 63.0-percent (17-of-27) from the field in Guilford's non-conference wins on Saturday and Sunday. Gauldin opened with 29 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season in a 77-61 win over Pfeiffer. She was 10-of-18 shooting from the field including 3-of-4 from deep and a 6-of-11 day at the foul line. Five of her boards came via the offensive glass. She added four assists, five steals, and a pair of blocked shots to her stat line. The next day, Gauldin poured in 20 points in the Quakers 84-57 triumph at Meredith College. She was 7-of-9 from the field and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe in her 20-minute shift. She chipped in one rebound, one assist, four steals, and a blocked shot. For the season, Gauldin leads the ODAC in scoring (15.2), total points scored (167), field goals made (60-of-114), and steals (35). She is second in three-point shooting (44.0%), fourth in free throws made (36-of-57), fifth in field goal shooting (52.6%), and sixth in blocked shots (10).

WRESTLER OF THE WEEK - 165 LBS. AND HEAVIER
Kaden Bryan | Shenandoah | Fy. | 285 lbs.
Bryan, a first-year from Westmingster, Md., helped Shenandoah to a 57-0 whitewashing of Penn State Mont Alto in a dual on Saturday. Bryan pinned Kyle Davis at the 2:59 mark to win the 285-pound bout, improving his individual record to 4-7 with his first victory in a dual this year.

WRESTLER OF THE WEEK - 157 LBS. AND LIGHTER
Christian Johnson-Hunte | Shenandoah | Fy. | 157 lbs.
Johnson-Hunte, a first-year from Alexandria, Va., helped Shenandoah shutout Penn State Mont Alto, 57-0, in a dual on Saturday afternoon. Johnson-Hunte decked Shawn Howes at th 4:12 mark to win the 157-pound bout. The victory marked his first in a dual setting and improved his individual record to 2-9 this season.
