BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KYLE WOODEN, GUILFORD COLLEGE
Wooden, a sophomore from Monroe, N.C. had an outstanding showing during the inaugural ODAC/USA South Baseball Challenge this past week, where the Quakers went 3-0.  He went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs in a win against N.C. Wesleyan.  Wooden then had three hits apiece against Greensboro and Averett.  Later in the week, Woodson posted a 4-hit game with two RBIs and three runs scored in a 17-7 win over Case Western Reserve.

BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
KYLE HICKS, RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE
Hicks, a junior from Goochland, Va., is currently 2-0 in three starts this season.  He gave up just eight hits and two runs in seventeen innings pitched last week.  He also recorded twelve strikeouts and only six walks in games against St. Mary's, Averett and Messiah. 

Baseball Honor Roll
Mike Lenox, BC

Hit .391 over the first five games of the season, going 9-for-23 with a double, triple, homer and nine RBIs.

John Sinclair, BC Went 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA in two starts. He struck out 11 and allowed 16 hits in 12.2 innings.
Adam Hart, GC Earned his first Guilford win with a seven-inning, five-hit, six-strikeout effort in the Quakers' 3-2 win over Greensboro.
Herbie Williams, H-SC Helped lead the Tigers to a tournament title by batting 7-for-13 with seven runs scored, six RBI, one double and four triples over a the three-day Floyd B. Wilcox Memorial Baseball Tournament.
Connor Thompson, LC Pitched eight innings in a 5-3 win over Methodist, notching five strikeouts and no earned runs.
David Gaines, Jr., LC Recorded three home runs last week for the Hornets while posting a team-best 11 RBIs and 18 total bases on a 4-1 week.
Alan Moore, RC Hit .500 or better in three of four games at Methodist Tournament
Phil Cadle, VWC Batted. .411 in a 4-1 week for the Marlins, while also recording a game-winning hit against Alvernia.
Nick Pisula, VWC Pitched a complete-game against Alvernia, where he recorded four strikeouts and did not allow a hit until the sixth inning.
Andrew Henderson, WLU Earned his first win against Brandeis, where he pitched into the eighth inning, allowing just one earned run on four hits.
Terrence McKelvey, WLU Helped the Generals to a 4-1 week by recording at least three hits in three of their five games during the Phoenix Tournament. 

 

 


 

MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DAMIAN BECKER, VIRGINIA WESLEYAN COLLEGE
Becker, a sophomore from Lynbrooke, N.Y., had a career game in the Marlins' win 20-7 win over Hood College (Md.) last week.  Becker notched six goals and five assists for 11 points.  His six goals is the fifth highest single-game mark in VWC history and his five assists ties him for the third best single-game output in Marlin history while his 11 points is good enough for a second-best mark in the Virginia Wesleyan single-game record books.  

Men's Lacrosse Honor Roll

Mark Guillen, GC  

Made a career-high 13 saves off the bench in the Quakers' 18-4 loss to Goucher.
Matt Quinton, RC Scored a team-high five goals and added two assists in a 20-7 season-opening win against York (Pa.).

 

 


 

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JULIE LANGSETH, GUILFORD COLLEGE
Langseth, a freshman from Lexington, Mass., helped the Quakers to a 3-3 week with wins over Greensboro, Methodist and Peace by posting a .526 batting average.  She recorded ten hits including four doubles, one triple and one home run.  Langseth also notched five RBIs and five runs scored in six games.

SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
KATIE BRUCE, LYNCHBURG COLLEGE
Bruce, a sophomore from Lanexa, Va., threw two complete games to lead the Hornets to a 2-0 week with wins against Meredith and Mary Washington. She allowed just eight hits and two earned runs in 14 innings while striking out 14 batters. She also finished the week with a 1.00 ERA.

Softball Honor Roll
Jessica Burcham, BC

Notched twenty strikeouts in twelve innings pitched, including a Guilford record of 13 strikeouts in a 4-3 win over Peace.

Paige Smith, R-MC

Helped the Yellow Jackets to a split with Mary Washington with a three-run home run in game two to give R-MC a 5-4 win.

Heather Bishop, VWC Recorded a .500 batting average with three hits and one RBI in two wins against Averett.
Brittaney Brown, VWC Fanned nine batters and allowed just one run in a sweep against Averett; recorded a shutout in the first game.

 

 


MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JEREMY BECHT, WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
Becht, a first-year from Woodstock, Ga. helped lead the Generals to a 2-1 week by going 3-0 at No. 5 singles and notching a 2-1 record at No. 3 doubles.  Becht did not drop a game in his two singles matches against ODAC competition and he was the lone W&L player to win his singles match in a 6-1 loss to Division I Furman.

Men's TennisHonor Roll
Alec Chase, GC Went 1-1 in singles and doubles this week. Took a 6-1, 6-0 decision over his rival from Greensboro College at second singles and teamed with Will Mason-Deese for an 8-6 win at first doubles.

 

 


 

WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
VIRGINIA EDAHL, SWEET BRIAR COLLEGE
Edahl, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., won two singles matches (6-2, 6-4) and teamed up with Krista Maldonado to win two doubles matches (7-6, 6-0) against non-conference opponents Salem College and Greensboro College last week. 

Women's TennisHonor Roll
Mary Simpson, GC Won twice in the Quakers' season opener with Greensboro College. Scored a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles and teamed with Paulette Wyatt for a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles.
Kelsey Burke, RC Won two No. 2 singles matches (6-4, 7-5) and one No. 2 doubles match (8-1) in a loss to Averett.
Krista Maldonado, SBC Went 4-0 against Salem College and Greensboro College with wins at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles.

 

 


 

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
RICKY FLYNN, LYNCHBURG COLLEGE
Flynn, a junior from Gaithersburg, Md., has a banner week at the Virginia Tech Challenge last week.  Flynn placed twelfth in the mile with a time of 4:14.25, which set a new benchmark in the Lynchburg record books, besting Gregg Cavaliere's previous record of 4:16.30.  Flynn's mile time was also good enough to qualify him for nationals. 

Men's Indoor Track Honor Roll
Jamison Monahan, RC Placed 28th overall, 2nd among D-III runners in the 800m at the Virginia Tech Challenge with a time of 1:59.46.
David Kidd, VWC Set a new VWC record in the 800m by running a time of 1:59.37 at the Princeton Invitational.

 

 


WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
BROOKE BOGART, VIRGINIA WESLEYAN COLLEGE
Bogart, a first-year from Ridgewood, N.J., bested her existing VWC record in the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, 7.25 inches at the Princeton Invitational, which is currently the 12th best mark in the nation and is good enough to make her a provisional qualifier for nationals.  Bogart also placed third in the long jump (17-2.25) and second in the 4x400 relay (4:41.96).  Both jumps set new ODAC top marks for the season. 

Women's Indoor TrackHonor Roll
Ashley Meyer, LC Ran a 5:16.85 mile at the Virginia Tech Challenge, which nearly missed LC's all-time record of 5:16.26.
Sarah Witt, RC Finished first among all D-III competitors in the 60m hurdles (9.44) and 400m (1:01.75) at the Virginia Tech Challenge.
