Edwards Men's Top Athlete, Yerkes, Webb Share Women's Honor

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Lynchburg College and Washington and Lee University came away victorious on Friday evening in the 2009 ODAC Men and Women's Indoor Track Championships.  The Hornets ran away with the men's crown while the Generals had enough cushion going into the final event to hold off Roanoke College to claim the women's crown by four points.

Lynchburg's Brandon Edwards was tabbed as the ODAC Athlete of the Meet, and was joined by LC mentor, Dr. Jack Toms, as the ODAC Coach of the Year.  Eastern Mennonite University's Michael Allen was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year while Washington and Lee's Billy Billington earned the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete Award in vote of the league's sports information directors.

Roanoke's Robin Yerkes and Washington and Lee's Elizabeth Webb shared the ODAC Athlete of the Meet accolades on the women's side.  Webb also earned her second straight indoor ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year.  Generals' coach Nate Hoey garnered the ODAC Coach of the Year honor, and Virginia Wesleyan College's Brooke Bogart received the ODAC Rookie of the Year award.

Going in the final women's event, Washington and Lee sat atop the standings with 114 points, eight head of Roanoke.  The Maroons won the 4x400-meter relay, earning the full 10 first place points.  The Generals finished third in the race, securing six more points hold a four-point edge over the previous year's champions.
