Edwards Men's Top Athlete, Yerkes, Webb Share Women's Honor
LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Lynchburg College and
Washington and Lee University came away victorious on Friday
evening in the 2009 ODAC Men and Women's Indoor Track
Championships. The Hornets ran away with the men's crown
while the Generals had enough cushion going into the final event to
hold off Roanoke College to claim the women's crown by four
points.
Lynchburg's Brandon Edwards was tabbed as the ODAC Athlete of the
Meet, and was joined by LC mentor, Dr. Jack Toms, as the ODAC Coach
of the Year. Eastern Mennonite University's Michael Allen was
named the ODAC Rookie of the Year while Washington and Lee's Billy
Billington earned the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete Award in
vote of the league's sports information directors.
Roanoke's Robin Yerkes and Washington and Lee's Elizabeth Webb
shared the ODAC Athlete of the Meet accolades on the women's
side. Webb also earned her second straight indoor ODAC/Farm
Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Generals' coach Nate Hoey
garnered the ODAC Coach of the Year honor, and Virginia Wesleyan
College's Brooke Bogart received the ODAC Rookie of the Year
award.
Going in the final women's event, Washington and Lee sat atop the
standings with 114 points, eight head of Roanoke. The Maroons
won the 4x400-meter relay, earning the full 10 first place
points. The Generals finished third in the race, securing six
more points hold a four-point edge over the previous year's
champions.
