Janey Fugate, Washington and Lee, Freshman

Fugate, a freshman from Atlanta, Ga., started out her collegiate career with a bang as she posted a pair of top-10 overall finishes amongst her three events at the Liberty Kickoff over the weekend.  She was the first NCAA Division III finisher and placed third overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.26.  She went on to be the second D-III finisher in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.91 seconds.  Fugate joined Jennifer Friberg, Jillian Katterhagen and Lauren Woodie in the 4x400-meter relay in placing sixth overall and the first D-III squad to cross the line in 4:12.00.

Women's Indoor Track Honor Roll

Olivia Mills, Bridgewater, Junior
Mills picked up where she left off following the cross country season as the 2011 ODAC cross country champion opened her indoor track season Friday with a strong showing in the 5000-meter run at the Liberty Kickoff meet. Mills placed fifth overall (first D-III runner to finish) with a time of 18:07.97 to set a new BC record in the event. Mills broke her own mark, set a year ago, by almost 15 seconds.

Christina Washington, Lynchburg, Senior
Washington ran a 2:24.60 in the 800-meter dash Saturday at the Liberty Kickoff. She placed third overall and first among NCAA Division III runners in the field.

Shakiella Daniel, Virginia Wesleyan, Freshman
Daniel placed 17th in a field of 44 in the 400-meter dash in a VWC record time of 1:01.94 at the CNU Holiday Open. She was the second D-III runner in the top 20 and smashed VWC's former record of 1:03.61 set by Tiffany Brown in 2009.
