Second Annual Inter-Conference Event to be Played at Roanoke
SALEM, Va. --- Hot off the heels of the NCAA
Division III Men's Basketball Championship, basketball will again
be at the forefront in the Roanoke area as the Old Dominion
Athletic Conference and the USA South Athletic Conference team for
the second annual ODAC-USA South Men and Women's Basketball Senior
Challenge.
Started last season, the ODAC-USA South Senior Challenge provides
the graduating seniors from each of the conferences' schools the
opportunity to compete in the collegiate forum one last
time. USA South member Averett College served as the
inaugural host last year, and Roanoke College will house the two
contests this season.
The games also have a higher purpose. The theme of the contests is
"Sportsmanship Counts." The games are intended to place
the importance of sportsmanship and the values of fair play shown
through seniors, from competing conferences, having one last time
on the basketball floor.
The USA South will be looking to make amends for a pair of losses
to the ODAC at Averett. The ODAC women, led by NCAA
Player of the Year Megan Silva, defeated the USA South
77-62. The men completed the ODAC sweep later that
afternoon, riding four double digit scoring efforts to a 105-92
triumph.
This year's matchups are set for Sunday, March 18, with the women's
game at 1:00 p.m. and the men's tilt at 3:00 p.m. Both
senior showcases will be held in the C. Homer Bast Center on the
campus of Roanoke College. For more information, please
contact the ODAC office at 540-387-9073, or the USA South office at
910-630-7326.
