At 13-0, Randolph-Macon is one of only two remaining NCAA Division
III teams in the country with an unblemished record. The
Yellow Jackets, under first year head coach Nathan Davis,
maintained their top ranking for a second straight survey after
running off three more victories last week. R-MC enters the
game ranked 10th in the nation in scoring margin (+15.9
ppg), 11th in defensive field goal percentage (37.6%)
and 12th in rebounding margin (+9.1). Production
on offense comes from several fronts, led by athletic wing Jordan
Brown, big man Brandon Braxton, and steady performer Danny
Jones. Scoring also comes in a variety of situations as R-MC
clawed back from a 16-point second-half deficit at Hampden-Sydney
to win the game on a clutch three-pointer by Adam Desgain with five
seconds to play.
Eastern Mennonite and head coach Kirby Dean find themselves in
uncharted territory, having never been ranked nationally until last
week when the Royals debuted at No. 24. EMU leapt six spots
to No. 18 this week, following wins over Washington and Lee and
Roanoke to improve its record to 11-1. The Royals enter
Wednesday's showdown with the third-ranked offense in the nation at
91.2 points per game. They are also fourth in scoring margin
(+19.7 ppg) and turnover margin (+7.7), and 12th in
steals (11.7 spg). Four players average 13 points per game or
better with Todd Phillips leading the charge at 18.8 markers per
outing. Current ODAC Player of the Week, D.J. Hinson, saw his
average jump to 15.6 points per game following games of 34 and 22
points in EMU's wins. Hinson connected on 13-of-20 three-pointers
between the two contests.
