Quakers Top Eastern Mennonite, R-MC Knocks Down Franklin & Marshall
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. --- Guilford College will
make its second straight trip to the NCAA Division III Men’s
Basketball National Championship Series in Salem on March
19-20. The Quakers will be joined by fellow ODAC member
Randolph-Macon College, forming half of the contingent that will
vie for the 2010 national championship.
Guilford (30-2) will meet Williams College (29-1) in the first
semifinal game on Friday in the Salem Civic Center. Tip-off
is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Randolph-Macon (26-6) will square
off with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (27-4) in the
second semifinal at 7:00 p.m. The winners of those two
contests will play for the hardware at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The two semifinals will be video webcast by the NCAA with audio
provided by D3hoops.com. Both broadcasts will be free to all
viewers. The NCAA Division III National Championship Game
will be televised live by CBC College Sports Network. Check

The Quakers made their way back to Salem following the team’s
second ODAC Championship in three years. They defeated
Christopher Newport University (83-59) and John Carroll University
(85-82) in the first weekend. Guilford continued with a 75-68
win over the College of Wooster in the round of 16, setting a
rematch with Eastern Mennonite University. The Royals (25-5)
beat the Quakers during the regular season, 90-63, in their only
meeting, but Guilford evened the season-series with a 90-80 triumph
on Saturday.
Tyler Sanborn recorded his 29th double-double of the
season on 26 points and 14 rebounds. Clay Henson added 25
markers and Martin Stephenson added 13 points on 6-for-6
shooting. D.J. Hinson exploded for a career-high 37 points
for EMU. He knocked down 8-of-16 three-pointers as part of a
13-for-22 night from the field. George Johnson added 20
points, connecting on 6-of-14 from downtown.
Randolph-Macon makes its first trip to an NCAA championship setting
since the 1976-77 season when the program was still classified as
NCAA Division II. The Yellow Jackets drubbed Cabrini College,
95-66, in the first round and followed with a 70-60 win over Clark
University. R-MC trounced DeSales University, 68-55, to join
the final eight teams, leaving a matchup with 2009 championship
series qualifier, Franklin & Marshall. Randolph-Macon got
a second big game out of Eric Pugh as he dropped in a game-high 23
points to go with six assists. He made 7-of-10 shots from the
field, including a 5-for-7 showing from beyond the arc. Danny
Jones added 14 points and Calvin Croskey registered 10 points.
