Randolph's Hunt Named a Finalist for Jostens Trophy

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Monday afternoon the finalists for the prestigious Jostens Trophy were announced and Randolph College star guard Colton Hunt (Whittier, NC/Smoky Mountain) was among the 10 finalists listed by the members of the Rotary Club of Salem, Va.

The club is responsible for the initial review of annual nominations and narrowed the pool to 10 men and 11 women finalists. The Jostens Trophy is awarded to an outstanding Division III men's and women's basketball player who excels on the floor, in the classroom and in the community.

Hunt finished the his amazing senior campaign averaging 24.2 points per game, pulling in a team-leading 7.3 rebounds as well. His scoring output is third in the country as of Monday, and he also ranks in the top 15 nationally in steals per game after leading the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) in both points and steals this season. Hunt also earned the ODAC Kurt Axe Memorial Player of the Year award in 2012-13.

The senior guard is not only a star on the court but in the classroom as well. Earlier this season Hunt was named as the 2013 Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year in Division III, as he posts a 3.94 GPA in economics with minors in physics and finance. Hunt was named the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the third consecutive season this year.

Colton has also shined in the community, as he is a peer tutor in economics, business, math and calculus as well as physics. He has volunteered at basketball camps in his home of Whittier, NC, while also reading to local elementary students in Lynchburg and serving on Randolph's Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Voters' ballots are due by March 13 with the winning schools expected to be notified by March 15. The awards presentation is scheduled for Thursday, March 21 at the Salem Civic Center in conjunction with the Men's Division III quarterfinals and semifinals being hosted in Salem, Va., on March 22-23.

The trophy models the Rotary International motto of "Service Above Self" by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of the well-rounded Division III student-athlete. This year's class marks the 16th year the award has been presented.
