W&L's George Named Academic All-American by CoSIDA

AUSTIN, Texas --- Washington and Lee University guard Nicholas George added a very unique honor to his career list of plaudits on Wednesday afternoon as he was named a Second Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). George is the fourth men's basketball player in Generals' history to earn Academic All-America laurels and the first since Michael Holt '91 in 1991.

To be eligible for Academic All-America, an athlete must have earned a spot on his or her Academic All-District team. Nominees must be of sophomore academic standing, be a started or important reserve, and boast a grade point average of at least 3.30 on a 4.00 scale.

A mathematics and economics double major, George averaged career bests in points (10.6), rebounds (3.6), assists (1.2) and steals (0.9) this season. He also made a career-best 55 three-pointers this year, which is the sixth-best single-season total in W&L history.

Over his four seasons, George registered 140 triples, while shooting 36.8 percent (140-of-380) from beyond the arc. The 140 three-pointers are the fourth-most in the history of the program and his three-point percentage is 10th on the all-time list. George was named the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete for men's basketball earlier this year.
