R-MC's Anthony an All-American Two Times Over

FOREST, Va. --- Randolph-Macon College playmaker Buzz Anthony is an All-American two times over as he leads the ODAC's contingent of postseason men's basketball awards. Anthony was tabbed a Second Team All-American by both D3hoops.com and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

The NABC honored three teams of eight players each to comprise its All-America platform. LeTourneau University senior Nate West was named the Division III Player of the Year, while Swarthmore College mentor Landry Kosmalski was tabbed the Division III Coach of the Year.

D3hoops.com setup is one man larger with four teams of five players each plus a five-man honorable mention chart. LeTourneau's West added a second POY award to his resumé while Yeshiva University's Elliot Steinmetz earned Coach of the Year laurels. Swarthmore guard Vinny DeAngelo earned Rookie of the Year honors.

Anthony is one of four ODAC standouts to earn additional awards from both outlets. Anthony was named to the NABC South All-District First Team, while Guilford College forward Kyler Gregory earned a second team assignment. Randolph-Macon head coach Josh Merkel was named the South District Coach of the Year. Anthony and Gregory both featured on the D3hoops.com All-South Region teams. Anthony earned a first team designation, while Gregory and Washington and Lee University forward William Brueggeman were slotted on the third team. R-MC forward Miles Mallory was selected as the South Region Rookie of the Year.

Anthony, a junior from Arnold, Md., put together a banner season that included a second straight Kurt Axe Memorial Player of the Year award as well as ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition. Anthony led the Yellow Jackets to a 28-2 overall record and 15-1 mark in conference play. R-MC captured the ODAC tournament title as the top seed. The third-ranked Yellow Jackets hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, posting wins over Wesley and TCNJ. R-MC was scheduled to host No. 13 Yeshiva on Friday, March 13, in the Round of 16 before the NCAA cancelled all winter and spring championships.

A member of the Bevo Francis Award "watch list," Anthony led the ODAC and Division III in free throw shooting (92.0% on 115-of-125). He topped the conference in total points scored (492), free throws made, assists (187), steals (65), and minutes played (995). He was second in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.0) and field goals made (162-of-345), and finished sixth in scoring average (16.4). Anthony was 53-of-136 from three-point range, good for 39.0-percent to rank seventh in the league.
