Washington and Lee to Host NCAA Men's Soccer First Round

Washington and Lee to Host NCAA Men's Soccer First Round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- We knew Washington and Lee University would be representing the ODAC in the NCAA Division III Tournaments, but the Generals were informed of an added bonus on Monday.  While it did not receive one of three first round byes in the 61-team field, those three off dates did afford the Generals an opportunity to host in the first round.

Unlike the women's soccer tournament field, all three pools of teams were used to fill the bracket.  Forty-two squads enter the tournament via Pool A as automatic qualifiers from their conferences.  One school, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, received a Pool B bid for the second straight season.  Pool B consists of true independents or those schools that compete in a conference that does not meet criteria for automatic qualification.  The remaining 18 teams earned at-large bids out of Pool C.

Washington and Lee (15-3-2) will open its campus to regional foe Methodist University (14-4-3) on Thursday, November 12.  The Generals and Monarchs will be meeting for just the second time overall, with W&L earning a 3-2 overtime victory in 2002.  Like the Generals, MU earned its tournament position via automatic bid after claiming the USA South Conference title.  The winner of Thursday's showdown will travel to Haverford College (16-3) for a second round matchup with the Fords in Haverford, Pa.  W&L and HC split two previous meetings -- a 3-2 Fords' win in 1981 and a 4-2 Generals' triumph in 1982.

All first and second round action will be competed November 12-15, with the 16 winners advancing to third round and quarterfinal play on November 21-22.  The national semifinal and championship games will be played at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo., on December 4-5.

Game times and ticket information will be announced later this week.  For more information, use the links below or go to the websites of any of the participating schools.  You can also visit the ODAC at www.odaconline.com.  Don't forget to become a fan of the ODAC on Facebook and follow @odacathletics on Twitter.
