Ceril, White Top Men's Tennis Awards

Both Earn Two Individual Honors, Yellow Jackets' Vaughn also Recognized

FOREST, Va. --- Randolph-Macon College junior Mederick Ceril and Washington and Lee University junior Hayden White shared ODAC Player of the Year honors in the 2012 All-ODAC Men's Tennis Awards.  Ceril was also tabbed the ODAC Rookie of the Year, while White was chosen the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete.  R-MC head coach Wayne Vaughan was named the ODAC Coach of the Year, and his Yellow Jackets were recognized with the Team Sportsmanship Award.

White, a junior from Baltimore, Md., shines on and off the court for the Generals.  In the classroom, White boasts a 3.545 grade point average as an Accounting major.  He has been a member of the All-ODAC Academic Team each of his three seasons, and has also been named a W&L Scholar.

On the court, White has led the Generals to three straight ODAC team championships as their top flight singles player.  He adds this major honor to the ODAC Rookie of the Year award he won in 2010.  This season, he posted a 5-0 mark in league play, all from the #1 singles position.  He went 8-3 in overall singles matches.  He is currently the fifth-rated singles player in the ITA's Atlantic South Region, posting two wins over regionally ranked opponents from Johns Hopkins (Andy Hersch) and Case Western Reserve (Will Drougas).  In doubles play, White and partner Taylor Shamshiri went 5-1 in conference and 11-4 overall.

Ceril, a junior from France, had an outstanding first season in Ashland for the Yellow Jackets.  Competing from the #1 singles flight, Ceril lost his first match of the season to NCAA Division I George Mason, but that would be the only defeat he experienced in 16 matches.  He finished the season 9-0 in ODAC play and 15-1 in all competition.  In doubles matches, Ceril and partner Chandler Weston went 8-8 overall from the top ladder position.  They posted a 5-4 record in ODAC play.

Vaughan, who completed his eighth season at Randolph-Macon, enjoys his first ODAC top coaching accolade.  His Yellow Jackets improved by five overall victories and four wins in conference play from 2011 to 2012.  That includes the program's first bid into the ODAC postseason tournament since 2009.
