LEXINGTON, Va. --- The 26th-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team posted a 5-0 victory over Catholic in the opening round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship on Friday afternoon at the W&L Courts.
W&L cruised through the doubles portion of the match to carry a 3-0 lead into singles. The Generals won all three matches by identical scores of 8-1.
In singles, sophomore Michael Holt (Henrico, Va./Mills Godwin) notched a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 and first-year Jordan Kranser won by the same score at No. 4 to close out the match.
Washington and Lee improved to 18-4 overall, while the Cardinals fell to 11-7.
W&L returns to action on Saturday in the second round of the tournament against 12th-ranked Kenyon at 2:00 pm.
