Generals to Host First Three Rounds in NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Washington and Lee University will be the lone squad to represent the ODAC in the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Team Tournament, as announced by the NCAA on Monday afternoon.  The Generals were selected to host a five team regional while also receiving a bye thru the first round of competition.

The men's tennis tournament begins this week with all 43 teams in action in first, second and third round play on May 7-10.  Competition in the eight regional sites will either run May 7-9 or May 8-10.  All regional events will take place on the campuses of competing institutions.  The eight winners emerging from the regionals will head to Mason, Ohio, to compete for the national title May 18-20.  The Lindner Family Tennis Center will host the quarterfinals and semifinals on May 18-19, with the championship on May 20.

Ranked 32nd in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), Washington and Lee (15-8) earned its place via the ODAC's automatic entry following the Generals' victory in the conference championship match.  W&L will open up its campus to four other programs for early round competition.  Juniata College (16-4) and Messiah College (9-6) will meet in the only first round match.  The two also earned automatic entry to the field, winning the titles from the Landmark Conference and Commonwealth Conference, respectively.  Emory University (16-6), the champion of the University Athletic Association (UAA), will play the winner in round two.  Washington and Lee squares off with N.C. Wesleyan University (16-5) in the second round.  The Monarchs won the USA South Athletic Conference title.

Washington and Lee has not faced any of the four other squads in the regional this weekend.
