Taylor Shamshiri, Washington and Lee, No. 2 Singles, No. 1 Doubles

Shamshiri, a freshman from Austin, Texax, was the Generals top player of the week against No. 15 Redlands and No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.  In singles play, he notched a 7-6 (1), 6-3 win against the Redlands, and then posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Claremont’s Alex Johnson, the 12th-ranked player in the country.  For the year, Shamshiri is 6-7 in singles action and 6-6 in doubles play.

Men's Tennis Honor Roll

Dan Phung, Randolph, Freshman, No. 6 Singles/No. 3 Doubles
Phung won all four matches he played this week, earning a pair of wins at both No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. Phung rallied to win in three sets Wednesday against Lynchburg, earning a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) win before following that up with a straight set win Sunday at Averett. In doubles play, he teamed with Jason Corsbie to earn a pair of 8-3 victories at No. 3 doubles. He is now 4-2 on the season, dating back to the fall.

Mederick Ceril, Randolph-Macon, Junior, No. 1 Singles/No. 1 Doubles
Ceril was 3-1 on the week for R-MC.  In a win over Virginia Union, Ceril won his No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-0 and then teamed up with Chandler Weston to win No. 1 doubles 8-0.  In an R-MC loss to St. Mary’s, Ceril defeated Andrew Gear 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
