Kenneth Downing, Virginia Wesleyan, Jr. #2 Singles, #2 Doubles

Downing, a junior from Washington, D.C., helped the Marlins to a 3-0 week that included two ODAC wins and a victory over NCAA Division I member Hampton University. Downing and partner Tyler Chang earned an 8-2 #2 doubles win over Randolph to help the Marlins to a 5-0 team win.  The duo would later add a pair of 8-6 wins over Hampton and Bridgewater.  Downing competed at #2 singles, picking up a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Hampton's Miguel Saurez on the way to a 6-1 team triumph.  Downing capped his week with a 6-3, 6-3 #2 singles victory against Bridgewater, helping VWC to a 7-2 victory.  Virginia Wesleyan is now 9-5 overall and 4-0 in league play.

Men's Tennis Honor Roll

Mesa Martorell, Guilford (So. - 2/3)
Martorell went 1-1 at #2 singles, picking up a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 comeback win over E&H before falling 6-4, 6-1 to W&L.  He and partner Levi Bruff won won 8-0 and 8-6 at #3 doubles. Guilford won 8-1 over E&H and lost to W&L, 6-3.

Joey Ross, Roanoke (Jr. - 1-2/2)
Ross helped RC to a 2-1 week. He won 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 over Bridgewater at #2 singles, and then posted 6-3, 4-6, 10-2 and 6-2, 6-3 wins over Shenandoah and E&H at #1 singles. He and Holden Branham won 8-3, 8-6, and 8-3 at #2 doubles.

Zack Ely, Washington and Lee (Fr. - 3/1-2)
Ely went 3-0 at #3 singles, picking up a 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 win over seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon followed by a pair of 6-0, 6-0 decisions over Guilford and Hampden-Sydney.  He fell twice at #2 doubles -- 8-2 to CNU and 8-6 to GC -- before picking up an 8-0 win at #1 doubles over HSC.
