Slosson Scores Five Goals to Lead Generals to Title

LEXINGTON, Va. --- Junior midfielder Megan Slosson recorded five goals and junior goalkeeper SarahTilbor registered a season-high 13 saves as top-seeded and 20th-ranked Washington and Lee won its fifth-straight ODAC Championship with a 10-4 victory over third-seeded Roanoke in the finals of the ODAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Watt Field.

The game was scoreless until 16:30 of the first half when sophomore midfielder Colleen Evans gave the Generals a 1-0 lead, but the Maroons quickly tied the score with an unassisted tally from junior attacker Amanda Hutchins at 14:54. W&L would then net two-straight goals, including one from Slosson, taking a 3-1 lead with 5:28 to play in the initial half. RC responded with a run of its own as Hutchins scored at the 4:25 mark and freshman attacker Brooks Laufman (Annapolis, Md./Severn) knotted the game with her unassisted goal at 3:09, but the Generals closed out the half with a goal from both Evans and Slosson to take a 5-3 lead into the break.

W&L opened the second half with three-straight scores, including two from Slosson and one from Evans, to own a 8-3 lead with 14:16 to play in the contest. Freshman midfielder Paige Mason (Orangeville, Ont./Orangeville) made good on a free position shot with 10:11 remaining to cut the W&L lead to 8-4, but the Blue and White closed the game with two unanswered goals to capture the ODAC crown.

Slosson was joined by Tilbor, Evans, senior midfielder Mallory Lobisser and junior defender Kat Michaels on the All-Tournament Team. Evans recorded three goals, while Lobisser had a single tally. Junior attacker Laura Henson notched one goal and one assist, while senior attacker Avery Lovejoy added two helpers.

Roanoke (14-3) placed Hutchins, freshman defender Alida Haslett and sophomore goalkeeper Katlyn Scarlett on the All-Tournament Team. Hutchins led RC with two goals, while Scarlett stopped nine shots.

The Generals (14-3) receive the ODAC's automatic bid to the 2007 NCAA Division III Tournament and await their opponent, which will be announced on Sun., May 6.
