Loss Ends Maroons' Record-Setting Season

Roanoke, 15-6 in game two of the NCAA Div. III Women's Lacrosse
Regional Semifinals Saturday afternoon at Lions Field. The
Bullets (15-3) will advance to tomorrow's regional title game
against TCNJ. The Maroons end their outstanding season with a
16-5 record. The 16 wins tie the 1988 team for the second-most
wins in school-history.
The Bullets, who never trailed in the game, led 8-2 at the half,
and outshot the Maroons 43-20. Roanoke committed 22 turnovers and
collected only 10 groundballs to Gettysburg's 20. The Bullets
won 14-of-23 draw controls.
Gettysburg got out to a quick 2-0 lead just two minutes into the
contest sophomore Marnie Comminsfound the back of the net.
Assisting on that play was Crane, who 15 seconds later scored
Gettysburg's second goal, unassisted.
Bianca Catta-Preta put the Maroons on the board with a
free-position goal at 21:38, but Gettysburg countered with
three-straight scores, including free position goals by sophomore
Allegra Formento and Crane.
After Gina Valles put up Roanoke's second free-position goal at
10:58, the Bullets reeled off another 3-0 run, including a pair of
goals by Stahl, to take a 9-2 lead at the start of the second
period.
Later in the half Roanoke scored back-to-back goals to pull to 13-5
with 15:59 to play, but Gettysburg picked up two of the last three
goals, both assisted by junior Lauren Woodman to close the
game.
Junior Hollis Stahlled the Bullets with five goals, while junior
Jessica Craneadded three. In total, eight Bullets scored
goals on the day. Junior Lexie Hearn netted two, while Commins,
junior Nina Emala, freshman Hannah Church, and sophomores
Formentoand Liz Laneach recorded one goal.
Juniors Vallesand Brooks Laufman each had two goals to lead the
Maroons. Valles' three draw controls moved her into a tie for
third all-time in 104 for her career. She was one goal shy of
tying the single-season record with 75 on the year. Senior
Catta-Preta had a goal and an assist while junior Sunni Ray each
netted one goal in the loss. Catta-Preta's career came to a
close as the school's record holder in caused turnovers with
85.
In goal for the Bullets, Kristen Krammer made nine saves. Roanoke
goalie Katlyn Scarlett had a huge game for the Maroons making 19
saves along with five groundballs. She finished her career
second in career saves at Roanoke with 701 during her four
years. Her 184 saves this year was a career-best and moved
into seventh for single-season saves at Roanoke.
