W&L's Arrix and Shelley Named All-Americans by USA Lacrosse Magazine

SPARKS, Md. --- USA Lacrosse Magazine released its Division III Women's Lacrosse All-Americans on Thursday, and Washington and Lee senior defender Catherine Arrix (Darien, Conn./Darien) and senior attacker Landon Shelley (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) were both honored.

Arrix was named to the 13-player first team, while Shelley earned a spot on the 13-player second team. In all, USA Lacrosse Magazine selected 39 players as All-Americans from 23 schools.

This is the first All-America laurel for Arrix. She started and played in 14 contests this season. Arrix tied for the team lead with 17 caused turnovers and also grabbed 19 ground balls. The Generals' defense allowed just 5.53 goals per game, which led the conference by over four goals per game and is the sixth-best average in Division III. Earlier this year, she was named all-region by the IWLCA and was selected as the ODAC's Defensive Player of the Year and made the All-ODAC First Team.

Shelley, an IWLCA First Team All-Region recipient, the ODAC Offensive Player of the Year and a first team all-conference honoree, led the league and is seventh in the nation with 50 assists. The 50 assists are also the second-most in a single-season in program history. Shelley set the single-season assists record with 53 in 2019. She also had 17 goals this year for 67 points. The 67 points are tied for the 10th-most in a single-season in W&L history.

Earlier this year, Shelley broke the program's career assists mark and finished her four years with 141 in 61 contests. She also broke the W&L single-game assists record with seven against Virginia Wesleyan on April 17. Shelley ends her career with 59 goals and the 141 assists for 200 points, becoming just the fifth player in program history to reach the 200-point plateau. This is Shelley's first All-America citation.

The Generals ended the year with a 14-1 overall record and the team went a perfect 8-0 in conference play. The Blue and White won its 11th consecutive ODAC Championship this year and advanced to the regional semifinal in the NCAA Tournament.
