Generals Joined by Maroons in NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament Field

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The ODAC's representation in NCAA lacrosse tournaments grew to five teams on Monday with the announcement of 2022 Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament field. Conference champion Washington and Lee University will be joined by at-large choice Roanoke College in the 46-team bracket.

Like W&L, 32 squads received automatic qualification from their respective conferences. One school earned a "Pool B" bid as an independent team or squad that competes in a league that does not feature automatic NCAA qualification. The remaining 13 teams received at-large bids from "Pool C," which includes all teams that did not receive AQ or Pool B entries. It is from the latter pool that Roanoke earned its selection from the Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Committee.

Scenarios are split for Washington and Lee and Roanoke to open their tournaments. While both appear in the lower-left quadrant of the bracket, the Generals (17-2) will host a three-team pod, while the Maroons (14-4) will travel to start their NCAA postseason.

Washington and Lee received a bye through the first round. Watt Field in Lexington will be the site of one first round game and a second round contest, for which the Generals await their opponent. Their opposition will either be Washington & Jefferson College (12-4) or Transylvania University (9-9). The Presidents earned their tournament position by claiming the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) title, while the Pioneers earned the Heartland Collegiate Women's Lacrosse Conference (HCWLC) automatic bid.

While the road is long, if everything plays out right for ODAC fans, Roanoke and Washington and Lee could meet in the quarterfinals with a final four spot on the line. The Maroons trek to that possible matchup begins with a first round game against Bryn Athyn College (Pa.). The Lions (11-2) won the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) this weekend. That first round showdown will be played at Gettysburg College. The host Bullets (16-3), a perennial power in Division III women's lacrosse with three national championships and a runner-up finish under their belts, will meet the winner in round two. Gettysburg earned its spot by claiming the Centennial Conference trophy.

Tournament play kicks off with first and second round action on Saturday and Sunday, May 14-15. The winners advance to one of four regional sites for two rounds of play on Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22.

For a second straight season and the sixth time in tournament history, the national semifinals return to Salem, Va. Kerr Stadium on Roanoke College's campus will serve as the host venue on Saturday and Sunday, May 28-29, with the event hosted by the City of Salem, Roanoke College, and the ODAC.

Game times and ticket information will be announced later this week. For more information, visit the websites of any of the participating schools.
