Sam Van Belle, Washington and Lee, Sr., Defense

Van Belle, a senior from Lebanon, N.J., spearheaded a pair of defensive efforts that helped nationally second-ranked Washington and Lee improve to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in ODAC games. The Generals limited Shenandoah and Guilford to a combined 23 shots over two games with 15 total on-cage. Van Belle was a key feature in W&L's transition defense in the Generals 19-9 win at Shenandoah. She caused a pair of turnovers and picked up three ground balls while also helping W&L turnover the field on 11-of-12 successful clear attempts. W&L forced SU into 15 total turnovers of the game. Just seven shots (four on target) were attempted on Washington and Lee's goal in a 23-1 win over Guilford. Van Belle caused one of 15 GC turnovers and helped W&L convert 8-of-8 clears and limited the Quakers to 3-of-13. For the season, Van Belle is seventh in the ODAC with 18 caused turnovers and sixth with 27 ground balls.
