Kwiatkowski Scores Twice, Santos Adds a Third
LYNCHBURG, Va. --- The Lynchburg College
women's soccer team jumped on the board less than a minute into a
first round NCAA Tournament game to win 3-0 over Maryville College
in a contest that was plagued by high force winds and torrential
rain.
Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) scored just
53 seconds into the contest off a pass from Brittany Klippstein
(Springfield, VA/West Springfield). At 61:04 into the game, Katie
Santos (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop Ireton) drove to the endline and beat
a Maryville defender off the dribble to deliver a pass to
Klippstein for the second goal. Kwiatkowski added her second tally
of the contest for the final score.
Desiree Simmons of Maryville (17-4-1) posted eight saves in net
while Jackie Bader (Fort Washington, MD/Bishop Ireton) stopped two
of three Maryville shots in 83 minutes. The Hornets (20-0-3)
outshot the Scots 22-3 and held a 13-1 advantage in corner
kicks.
Lynchburg advances to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in
Lynchburg, VA, tomorrow at 2 p,m, to play Emory University, a
3-0 winner over St. Mary's (MD) College in a first round
match.
