ODAC Athletes Collect Honors from National, Regional and State Outlets

FOREST, Va. --- Lynchburg College midfielder and 2011 ODAC Player of the Year, Brittany Klippstein, headlines a long list of postseason honors earned by the ODAC's women's soccer student-athletes and coaches.  The Hornets' standout was named to a pair of All-America first teams as part of 38 different awards garnered by the conference's women's soccer stars.

Four outlets contributed to the ODAC's contingent of accolades.  Three players earned All-America distinction from D3soccer.com, while 15 individuals corralled academic, athletic and coaching honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).  The ODAC dominated the all-state awards presented by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID), accounting for 18 more laurels that include Player, Coach and Rookie of the Year awards.  CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) handed out one academic all-district honor.

Klippstein, a senior from Springfield, Va., is a three-time All-ODAC honoree, including first team selections in 2010 and 2011.  In addition to her ODAC honors, Klippstein was named to the All-America First Team by both D3soccer.com and the NSCAA.  She also earned the VaSID College Division Player of the Year award.  Klippstein helped lead the Hornets to three conference championships in four years, including each of the past two seasons.  She finished the 2011 campaign fourth in the ODAC in points (35) and goals scored (14) and tied for fifth in assists (7).

Washington and Lee University defender Kat Lawson doubled-up the ODAC's dual All-American yield as she joined Klippstein on the NSCAA All-America First Team and was tabbed to the D3soccer.com All-America Second Team.  The senior back helped the Generals' defense surrender just seven goals in 2011, tied with Lynchburg for tops in the ODAC and fourth in the country.  W&L's 0.36 goals-against-average ranked sixth in NCAA Division III.

Lynchburg, owner of the nation's fourth lowest GAA at 0.298, saw fullback Beverly Hoath earn a spot on the D3soccer.com All-America Second Team.  Besides her defensive work, Hoath added a little offense with one goal and one assist in her senior campaign.

Virginia Wesleyan College forward Jessica Edelman starred on and off the pitch for the Marlins.  The 2011 ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year earned a spot on the NSCAA All-America Second Team, but was also tabbed to the NSCAA Women's College Scholar All-America Second Team.  In addition, the VWC junior earned a first team nod on the Capital One NCAA Division III Academic All-District First Team for District 5, as presented by CoSIDA.

ODAC student-athletes earned a dozen regional honors from the NSCAA.  Lynchburg's Klippstein and Hoath were joined by VWC's Edelman and Krista Witmer (Def.) and W&L's Lawson and Emily Leary (GK) on the NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region First Team.  Those earning second team all-region include LC's Dessi Dupuy (For.), VWC's Danielle Stephens (Mid.) and W&L's Holley Beasley (Mid.).  Guilford College's Bri Eilman (Mid.), the Hornet's Jackie Bader (GK) and Roanoke College's Maya Kantor (Def.) garnered third team recognition.

Dupuy and LC mentor Dr. Todd Olsen joined Klippstein in earning major Virginia All-State accolades from VaSID.  Dupuy, who received a share of the ODAC's Rookie of the Year award with W&L's Beasley, collected the same honor from the state contingent.  She burst on the scene in Lynchburg as she led the ODAC in points (60) and goals scored (27). 

Dr. Olsen, winner of seven ODAC top coaching honors in 18 seasons, secured his fifth straight All-State Coach of the Year plaque.  He led Lynchburg to its 10th conference title and 10th appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament in the last 12 years.  With a record of 19-2-2 in 2011, Dr. Olsen owns a 294-79-38 overall record, good for a .762 winning percentage.  In ODAC games, that winning percentage jumps to .832 as he boasts a 148-25-12 league mark.

The ODAC placed nine players on the VaSID All-State First Team.  Joining Klippstein and Dupuy are LC teammates Hoath and Angela Bosco (For.) as well as RC's Kantor and Carmen Graves, VWC's Edelman, and W&L's Leary and Beasley.  Six second team selections consist of LC's Bader, Randolph-Macon College defender Megan Calabrese, VWC's Stephens and Witmer, and W&L's Lawson and Katherine Rush (For.).
