Lynchburg to Host Four Team Regional Pod

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Three ODAC teams will
enter the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament as both
Virginia Wesleyan College and Roanoke College earned at-large bids
to join Lynchburg College in the field of 64 teams. The
Hornets will host a four-team regional pod next weekend, while the
Marlins travel to Stevens Institute in Hoboken, N.J., and the
Maroons make their way to Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.
Lynchburg (19-2-1) squares off with New Paltz State (13-5-2), who
are making their first NCAA appearance after winning the State
University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title.
Joining the Hornets and Hawks in Lynchburg will be Rowan
University (13-4) and future ODAC member Shenandoah University
(15-6-1). Rowan, which earned at-large bid into the
tournament, will be making its eighth overall and seventh straight
appearance in the postseason. Shenandoah won the USA South
crown and will be making their inaugural appearance on the national
stage.
Virginia Wesleyan (18-3), which finished as the runner-up to
Lynchburg in this past weekend's ODAC championship, has not faced
any of the teams in its regional pod. The Marlins open with
Williams College in the first round. The Ephs (10-4-3) earned
an at-large bid after seeing its streak of five straight New
England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) titles snapped
in a loss to traditional rival Amherst College.
VWC and WC will be joined by Westfield State University and host
Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. The Owls
(15-3-1) won the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference
(MASCAC) crown, marking three conference titles in the last four
years. The host Ducks (14-3-3) won the Empire 8 championship
for the second straight year to secure their spot in the field.
While VWC must head north, Roanoke will turn south and head to
Emory for its regional action. The Maroons (14-5-1) will meet
Centre College (14-4-2) in the first round. The Colonels,
which earned an at-large bid after falling in the Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) title game, are making their
second appearance in the national tournament. Regional host
Emory (15-0-2) meets Piedmont College (17-2-1) in its first round
tilt. The Eagles completed their first undefeated regular
season, having shut out 14 opponents. The Lions won the Great
South Athletic Conference (GSAC) title.
First round action begins on Saturday, November 12*, in 16
four-team regionals around the country. Second round action
is slated for Sunday, November 13. The sectional round is
schedule for November 18-19 at sites yet to be determined.
The national championship series will commence on December
2-3 in San Antonio, Texas.
