ODAC Announces Women's Soccer Awards

Lynchburg Earns Three Major Honors

FOREST, Va. --- Lynchburg College took home three major awards and placed four players on the All-ODAC First Team as the conference announced the 2011 ODAC Women’s Soccer All-Conference Teams.  LC midfielder Brittany Klippstein garnered ODAC Player of the Year honors, and head coach Dr. Todd Olsen was selected the ODAC Coach of the Year.  Forward Dessi Dupuy shared ODAC Rookie of the Year accolades with Washington and Lee University midfielder Holley Beasley.  Virginia Wesleyan College forward Jessica Edelman was named the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete.

Klippstein, a senior from Springfield, Va., adds her top player honor to All-ODAC First Team selections in 2010 and 2011 as well as a second team choice in 2009.  Klippstein spearheads the third-rated scoring offense in the country from the center of the pitch as she’s helped drive Lynchburg to a 4.64 goals per game average.  She is currently ranked fourth in the conference in points (35), and is third in goals scored (14) and fifth in assists (7).  She tops the ODAC in game-winning goals with six, four of which have come in ODAC contests.  Klippstein’s most recent game-winner came against Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC title game in which she scored from 25-yards out in the 35th minute to secure the Hornets’ third ODAC crown in her four years at Lynchburg.

In his 18th season guiding the Hornets, Dr. Olsen enjoys his seventh overall and second straight ODAC top coaching honor after leading Lynchburg to 10th conference title and 10th appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament in the last 12 years.  With a current record of 19-2-1, Dr. Olsen owns a 294-79-37 overall record, good for a .762 winning percentage.  In ODAC games, that winning percentage jumps to .832 as he boasts a 148-25-12 mark.

Dupuy, a freshman from Lynchburg, Va., immediately stepped to the forefront of not only the Hornets’ offense, but also the ODAC and NCAA scoring leaders.  Dupuy currently sits atop the conference ranks in points (60) and goals scored (27), categories in which she ranks third in Division III.  She scored at least one point in 20-of-27 games played, registering a season-high 10 points on five goals in a win against Eastern Mennonite University during the regular season.  She earned a spot on the All-ODAC First Team for her efforts.

Beasley, a freshman from Virginia Beach, Va., also made an immediate impact in her first year of collegiate action.  She notched 12 goals from her midfield position to tie for fourth in the ODAC.  She added four assists to post 28 total points, good for eighth in the league.  Beasley tied for second in the conference with five game-winning tallies, her latest coming in the Generals’ 1-0 win over Bridgewater in the ODAC quarterfinals.  Like Dupuy, Beasley was also named to the All-ODAC First Team.

Edelman, a junior from Voorhees, N.J., adds this honor to an All-ODAC First Team selection as she stars both on and off the field for VWC.  In the classroom, Edelman boasts a 3.94 grade-point-average as a Business major.  She is a four-time honoree on the Virginia Wesleyan Dean’s List, and has appeared on the ODAC All-Academic Team each of her first two opportunities.  On the pitch, Edelman is currently tied for first in the ODAC in the assists (14), tied for fourth in goals (12) and is third in points (38).  She collected the first two ODAC Player of the Week awards of the 2011 campaign as she helped the Marlins to a 10-0 start.  Virginia Wesleyan is one of three ODAC teams readying for NCAA Division III Tournament play this weekend (with Lynchburg and Roanoke College).
