HOBOKEN, N.J. --- An NCAA tournament scoreless streak extended Saturday for the Virginia Wesleyan College women's soccer team.

Massachusetts' Williams College scored a goal in the 27th minute on the field at Stevens Institute of Technology and made it stand up in a 1-0 win over VWC in the first round of the NCAA Division III championship tournament. It marked the third straight 1-0 first-round loss for Virginia Wesleyan, which saw it streak of scoreless NCAA tournament games stretch to six straight games.  VWC's last win in the tournament was a 2-0 decision against Johns Hopkins University in the first round in 2007.

Williams, the runner-up in the New Wngland Small College Athletic Association, scored the only goal of the game with 26:31 played when Caitlyn Clark (Middleton, Mass.) got by a VWC defender and knocked the ball into the right side from about six yards out.  Hana Tomozawa (Honolulu, Hawaii) was credited with the assist.

Sophomore goalie Erica Keil (Wayne, N.J./DePaul Catholic) produced three saves in goal for the Marlins and Laura Wann (Palos Verdes, Calif./Palso Verdes) had two saves for Williams.

Williams advances to the second round to face in-state rival Westfield State University (15-3-2), which advanced with a 5-3 penalty kicks decision over host Stevens Institute.  The teams played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime to set up the PK session.
