Marlins Fall to Rowan in First Round of NCAA Tournament

Virginia Wesleyan Ends Season with 18-2-1 Overall Record

BALTIMORE, Md. --- A return to Baltimore for NCAA Division III Championship women's soccer tournament action had an all too familiar outcome for Virginia Wesleyan College's Marlins on Saturday.

Despite producing a strong effort in both halves, the Marlins came ended up on the short end of a 1-0 score.  Erika Suhl (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) scored off a header in the 78th minute to lift Rowan University's Profs to the victory. 

The loss was the fourth consecutive 1-0 loss for VWC in the national tournament, including three in Baltimore.

Rowan advances to Sunday's second round game against host Johns Hopkins University, which rolled over Lancaster Bible College 5-0 in the day's first game.

Virginia Wesleyan, which closes the season with an 18-2-1 record, outshot the Profs (13-3-1) 11-9.  Both team finished with a pair of corner kicks.

Junior goalie Erica Keil (Wayne, N.J./DePaul Catholic) produced four saves for VWC.  Maria Dorris (Mantua, N.J./Clearview) finished with two saves for Rowan.
