Hollins Names Van Orden as Interim Head Coach for Women's Soccer

ROANOKE, Va. --- It was announced this week by Hollins Director of Athletics, Myra Sims, that Kathryn Van Orden has been chosen to be the next interim head coach of the Green and Gold soccer team.

"Kat will bring a new and fresh perspective to our soccer program, given her experience in a successful ODAC program," Sims said. "She brings not only a strong commitment to the sport, but also to developing young women into successful students and leaders. She is enthusiastic about the opportunity to be here at Hollins, and I know that enthusiasm will transfer to the team."

This will be Van Orden's first stint as a head coach on the collegiate level but she is no stranger to soccer in the Roanoke area. Along with coaching for VBR Star Soccer Club, the Chesapeake, VA native was a four-year starter for the Roanoke Maroons, spanning from 2016 to 2020. She finished her playing career with 15 goals and an assist. She was the team's leading scorer during her junior season, tallying six goals. During her four years on the team, the Maroons amassed 40 wins and advanced to the ODAC tournament all four years, making it to the semifinals in 2017.

She graduated from Roanoke with a bachelor's degree in health and exercise science and is currently a police officer with the city of Salem.
