Marlins Strike Three Times in Win Over Puget Sound

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team defeated the Logger from the University of Puget Sound 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to open up the 2022 NCAA Women's Soccer Regional pod hosted by the Marlins at the Tassos Paphites Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach, VA.

FIRST HALF
The Marlins struck early against the Loggers in the game scoring their first goal seven minutes into the contest. Victoria Gonzalez started a quick play off a foul free kick sending the ball forward to Molly Gobble who passed the ball forward to Olivia Bryant who snuck the ball past the Logger keeper for the opening goal. Neither team managed to find another goal the remainder of the opening half despite each team taking six shots. 

SECOND HALF
The Marlins scored within the first ten minutes of the second half as Alexis Miller corralled a blocked Shyenne Diaz shot and put the ball into the back of the net. The Marlins third and final goal came 15 minutes later when Emma Acanfora scored off the pass from Tori Green who wrangled the cross from Alex Agee to put VWU up 3-0. Neither team was able to find a goal in the remaining 20 minutes as Virginia Wesleyan held on to advance to the next round of the NCAA Tournament.

Virginia Wesleyan will face Rowan University tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 13 at 1 PM for the deciding game of the Virginia Beach Regional Pod. The Profs come into the game with a 14-0-4 record and were the NJAC Tournament Champions.
