Washington and Lee Wins Four Singles, Three Doubles Flights

ROANOKE, Va. --- The ODAC women's tennis teams
competed in the ODAC Fall Championships over the weekend at Hollins
University. The event was played in singles and doubles
flighted format and featured individual results rather than team
scores. Washington and Lee University student-athletes won
four singles and three doubles flights. Sweet Briar College
took home singles wins in the first two flights, and Bridgewater
College won the final singles and doubles flights. Hollins
collected the remaining singles victory.
In singles play, SBC's Ariel Holness (pictured) topped W&L's
Jen Snyder 6-1, 6-1 in Flight A. Moriah Burke made it two
wins for the Vixens as she defeated Chelsea Mixson (W&L), 2-6,
7-5, 10-6, in Flight B.
Washington and Lee won the next four singles tiers. Christina
Douglas claimed Flight C with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Sarah Budrus from
Hollins. Flight D went to Kerry Cotter following a 6-2, 6-1
decision over BC's Brittany Wilson. Claire Cahill knocked off
HU's Mariah Bryant, 6-1, 6-0, in Flight E, and Lauren Armstrong
slid past BC's Ally McConaughy, 6-4, 5-7, 10-8, for the win in
Flight F.
Flight H, the final singles pod, went to Bridgewater's Emily
Schweitzer by a 6-2, 6-0 score over HU's Caitlyn Hoerr.
The Generals corralled the first three of four doubles groups.
Mixson and Snyder beat Burke and Holness, 8-5, in Flight A.
Flight B was won by Douglas and Cotter, 8-5, over HU's Budrus
and Anne Ailstock. Cahill and Armstrong secured Flight C,
8-1, over Morgan McGhee and Olivia Stone from Bridgewater.
The Eagles' Wilson and Natalie Sutton trumped Roanoke College duo,
Katie Robinson and Morgan Thomson, 8-1, in Flight D.
