Washington and Lee Falls to Emory in NCAA Women's Tennis Third Round

ATLANTA, Ga. --- The 19th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team saw its 2014 season come to an end with a 5-0 loss to Emory University in the third round on the NCAA Division III Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Emory.

The Generals dropped all three doubles matches, with the pairing of juniors Sonja Meighan (McLean, Va. / Flint Hill) andPatricia Kirkland (Charleston, S.C. / Ashley Hall) earning the closest score of 8-4 at No. 1 doubles against Gabrielle Clark and Rebecca Siegler.

In singles, Meighan and junior Meghan Buell (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany) were both defeated in straight sets at Nos. 1 & 2, respectively, advancing the Eagles to the national quarterfinal round on Monday.

W&L will have a presence in the individual championships which begin on Thursday, May 22. The tandem of Meighan and Kirkland will compete in the doubles championship, while Meighan will participate in the singles championship.
