WLU Earns AVCA Academic Award

Adds Recogition to 2008 ODAC Title

LEXINGTON, Ky. --- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) recently announced its AVCA Team Academic Award winners and, for the fourth year in a row, Washington and Lee was among those honored.

W&L was one of 77 Division III teams and a record 409 collegiate and high school teams from across the country to be recognized. To be honored, a team must record a combined GPA of 3.30 or better for the most recent academic year.

Washington and Lee finished the 2008 season with a 31-7 overall record. The Generals captured their eighth consecutive ODAC title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth year in a row. W&L boasts and 81-1 record in league competition dating back to 2001.

W&L, which returns five starters from a season ago, opens the 2009 season when it hosts the W&L Invitational on Sept. 11-12 at the Warner Center.
